A well executed shot. The background makes the picture, giving a real sense of altitude.

I think you will find what I have found: that asking for ratings on anything with a watermarked copyright notice gets lots of 3/3s. I see no other alternatives that usefully prevents theft. Personally, I think that the people that can't see the picture for the watermark probably can't tell a good picture anyway.
I like this picture. It conveys a solitary, sombre mood and a sense of expectation. The lighting is well done, rather than let the camera try to average out the scene, you have allowed the shadows to go dark but emphasized the texture of the stonework.

I think it may have been better had you waited until there was no traffic.

Did you find it this way or did you move the starfish?

The sky adds to the mood. I am unsure if it was added or enhanced after the fact; so if it was, it was a very good job. On initial viewing, I had a vague feeling that the picture was not level. It took a bit of time to find a horizontal or vertical to confirm the feeling but I did confirm that the picture is tilted slightly to the right.

I really like the look of the mountains in the background. The "layering" effect, in my opinion, usually looks very good. As well, I like the contrast - dark trees in teh foreground set against the light background. Well done.

So few landscapes are done in B&W; I suppose because they are much more difficult. This is very well done. I like the way you have combined the hardness of the rock in the foreground with the background softened by the fog. There is a sense of calm amid the motion of the water.

Just a nice picture suitable for hanging on a wall. Not pretentious or trying to be artsy, just a beautiful scene.

I prefer the other photo to which you have linked principally because the rock is not centred. The "bulls-eye" approach seems to work in a limited number of situations.

Overall, I like the shot. The first two things that I noticed were the cut off treetops on the right and the large rock centered in the foreground. It might be worthwhile to see what it would be like with the camera angled higher to get the treetops and standing a few steps closer to elimate the large central rock in the foreground. Alternately, a view from a few paces to the left would eliminate the pieces of buildings that can be seen on the left and would remove the one rock from the center of the picture.

I disagree that the picture needs increased saturation. In fact, I think the subdued colors add to the appeal; perhaps because of the frequency of over-saturated photos presented on photo.net. In reviewing the other comments, I think that perhaps it is the balance of the subjects that creates the appeal. However, I don't think it is that alone. There is something about the photo that I can't identify that creates the appeal. Perhaps it is the combination of balance and the subtle colors along with other elements I am failing to identify.

THe long exposure gives a surreal quality to the picture. Very nice.

I like the dream-like quality you have achieved. It looks like a fairly long exposure, so was it low light or very small aperture?

Interesting, I have never seen a cannon designed to shoot downward. I suspect it had a limited purpose, as there are more effective close defences available - note that in the lower right of the picture you can see where hot oil would be poured on attacking soldiers. It is this sort of detail, that in my opion, make this photo. Note also the small house on the left showing the scale.

THe boat in the foreground adds to the photo - I think it would be a much more average picture without it.

Despite the fact that it is a night shot, it seems quite dark - perhaps the intended effect. However, I would have used a longer shutter to brighten things up.

Was this a lucky shot or did the horse stand still. In my limited experience photographing horses, it was quite challenging, as they were moving continuously making focus difficult (I use manual focus).
Well done, good detail inside despite being darker without blowing the exterior.

Well composed to show the defensive advantages that go with altitude.

I think the shot could be better if it were taken from a lower angle, getting the mountains in the distance into the reflection. Regardless, a well done photo.

I don't know if it is the camera or the scanning, but two things immediately strike me; first the picture appears to be out of focus. Second, there are a few strange patches of color in the sky.
