Is there an official formula for making a replenisher for Kodak
formula D-76d ?
-
You could try using Ilford Perceptol or Kodak Microdol-X developers which are formulated to give extra fine grain. These do give finer grain at the expense of some loss of film speed. Down rating the speed rating is over exposing the film and this would make the grain coarser, if you pull the developing time, you would get a softer negative which may yield a flat looking print that lacks a good tonal range. I like prints with good blacks, clean crisp highlights and rich midtones. I hate cigar ash tonality.

Sorry Guy! R.Hofland, the largest format that I own is a subminiture Mamiya RZ 67 Pro II, I can not compete with those sort of formats, I bet the quality is simply stunning. Maybe Ilford will make them to a special order provided that you buy enough of the film stock that you require.
Maybe I will dip my toe into LF one day and buy a second hand 4X5, tell me more about ULF.

I have made enquiries about this film in the past, apparently it is only available in the UK in sheet film only, 400TX is readily available in 135-24, 135-36 and #120 size rolls though, try this, HP5 plus or Neopan 400, all of these are excellent films.

I would like get a copy of this book too Roger, I was hoping that I might have been able to buy one from yourself so that you could sign it for me.

The latest Agfa APX 400 is quite lousy. Any of the east european garbage such as Adox/Efke, Fomapan and Maco should suffice.
East Europan films should be flushed down the lavatory pan.

I had heard rumours that the Ilford powder developers were to be discontinued, thankfully this is not so.
ID11, Microphen and Perceptol supplies should be close to normal around the middle of May. This I read on the Ilford forum.
Sadly though, Bromophen is to be discontinued.

It lost favour to the vastly superior Paterson Acutol.

D-76 contains Boric Anhydride and is less concentrated than Id11 which is still made to J.G.Capstaffs original formula.

It seems as though you are using the developing times given for ID11 and you should be aware that the commercially packaged developers are compounded differently. The time I was given by an Agfa rep was 7 minutes in undiluted D-76. Kodak D-76 contains Boric Anhydride and is probably a little less concentrated than ID11 and requires slightly different times than ID11 with certain films. It is probably best to get advice from an Agfa technical advisor on this matter.(See also the difference in times for the Fuji Neopan series films.

Thank you John,
I have only ever seen a replenisher formula for the standard D-76/ID11 formula, but never for the D-76d formula. I was wondering if Kodak ever bothered to publish one.
Thanks again.
Keith.
