  1. Hello, I purchased an old bag of ebay for 15.00. It is canvas and leather and

looks very much like a Billingham. However, I can find no name whatsoever on

the bag. The only markings on it is a spot on the leather that says "Made in

England" and on one of the zippers it is marked "Opti". The bag has no velcro

at all. All stitches and snaps, including the inserts inside. The bottom is

unusally well padded. It appears to be fairly old and it resembles a

Billingham but I am not sure if it is one or some type of knockoff. Anyone

    know? Thanks, Rick.

  2. "Yeah, that's where I go to reload my nine. The counter service is great - they'll do a clean and service while I'm downloading flash card pix at the photocenter. For less than 10 bucks I'm good to go, includng a bag of Cheetos on the way out. Was never happy with their knives though - I go to Williams-Sonoma for that..."

Us Texans love our Cheetos and guns. What would life be without the two? When we're not busy blowing the hell out of each other, we like to enjoy an original Texas delicacy. And going to Wal Mart is as Texan as going to the Alamo. Brad, you're an alright dude, I like you. You should come to Texas, you would fit right in. :)

  3. I own a D1x and it serves my needs just fine. At one time, I too, thought about a D200 but went with the D1x mostly because of price. I shoot a lot of photojournalism and documentary stuff and my main camera for several years was a D2H. I decided to get a back up and started looking around. I came across a great deal for a used D1x with extra batteries, a lens, etc... I bought it as a backup but find myself using it more and more as a main camera or using it at the same time with my D2H. The D1x is built like a tank like my D2H and that is one of the main things I look for in a camera- durability. I am very hard on my cameras. Having said all that, I too had a problem with the rubber coming off both my D1x and my D2H. At first, I attributed it to my rough handling of the camera, but now I'm not so sure. I just keep gluing the pieces back on. Both of these cameras remind me of Nikon F2's in build quality and that is the main criteria for me.
  4. Boy, you guys are a rowdy bunch of street shooters. Spraying eyeballs, ball kicking, nose punching, blinding people with flashes....holy cow, I hope I never run into any of you guys! I'm a street shooter and I have had more problems with cops and security guards than regular people on the street. Next time a cop stops me and asks me what I'm shooting I'll just pop a flash to blind him, then I'll bop him on the head with my D2H, and then just for good measure, I'll kick him square in the nuts. I'm sure he won't mind.:) Seriously, when I am on the street shooting, I carry a 4 inch folding Gerber hunting knife in a sheath on my belt. You never know.....
  5. Michael, I had a G1 and several lenses a few years back and bought one of these bags new. It is a very well made bag for what it is built for. The many velcro dividers are great for those small Zeiss lenses, but by the time I got all my stuff in there it became more of a storage bag than an actual shooting bag. It was just inconvienent as heck to shoot with the bag. It is a beautiful bag though, just a little small for my tastes. I used it for about a week, and then sold it on ebay for about what I paid for it and then I bought a nice Lowepro for the G system. I sure do miss that G1.
  6. One of the biggest problems that you have is that the home is unfurnished. Depending upon the color scheme of the house, this can really be a problem. If you are able to, by all means go by the house and scout it out and see what you have. Usually a furnished home will add scale and depth and color. If the empty house has some vivid color here and there, that will help. If the color scheme is what they call "realtor beige" be prepared for some difficult lighting situations as you try to bring out some detail in what you are shooting. All of the above suggestions on lighting and so forth are excellent. I am sure you will do fine.
  7. Chuck, do yourself and your wife a favor and look at getting some studio strobes instead of tungsten lighting. 250 watts is not really that much light and there is a lot of heat coming off those lights. There are several brands out there that are reasonable in price- Alien Bees and Novatron come to mind immediately, but there are a lot of brands available. I'm sure someone will come along with some more ideas for you. You are lucky in that you will have a beautiful model to work with. That always helps!
  8. I shoot quite a bit of PJ stuff as well and I use a D2H. For what I shoot, it is wonderful. I also own a D1x, but 90% of the stuff I shoot is with my D2H. But for someone who does not need the speed or the extreme durability, I would say go with the D200. More than double the MP count and it is smaller and lighter.
