Jan, I posted photos from my 2nd engagement session taken with a Canon 20D and a Tamron 28-75 2.8 XR Di LD lens that I literally just bought. I'm still learning to use my equipment properly but I think they turned out pretty sharp and so did the B&G to be.

Marc, I bought the 420EX upon the advice you gave me a couple of months ago and must say after placing it on the camera it feels mighty nice. Colleen, I'll try your advice tomorrow on half my shots and try out the advice of other's above and see how they look. Now, I don't have a white card but may try to whip up something like an index card and a rubber band. Do you think that will produce the same outcome?

Thanks for all the great advice. I just finished reading the manual that goes with my flash. I did forget to mention that I will be photographing outside and I forgot to mention that I also purchased a Sto-fen omni-bounce for the flash. Colleen, the flash does have high sync mode. Should I put it on high sync, attach the Sto-fen bouncer and fire away. I have to say, I'll be so glad when I'm more comfortable with all my equipment.

I am having my second engagement photo session tomorrow here in
good 'ol NC. The weather is rain this evening, cloudy tomorrow with
possible rain. I have a 20D and just bought the following: Canon
50mm 1.8; Tamron 28-75 2.8 and a 420EX flash. I'm sure you all will
say to definitely use the flash but I've never used it before and am
a little nervous to use it for the first time on this engagement
session. Should I shoot this session without a flash, use the flash
on the camera or just say the heck with it and throw the flash on
the camera and wish for the best. I am still new at getting to know
my camera and the equipment and I haven't had the opportunity to use
the flash just yet and have no idea where to start other than
reading the manual (which I am doing). Any suggestions with regard
to using a flash? I hope this wasn't too confusing. Thanks in
advance!

Here's a not-so-well known photographer. I love her bridal portraits. www.acaldwellphoto.com

Thanks all. I just finished my site and posted it yesterday!

Since I have not "officially" made it know that I'm starting my
wedding photography business and am trying to get all my ducks in a
row, I have been reviewing many of the albumn websites but am unable
to obtain price lists. Does anyone use www.thebookalbum.com to sell
albums to clients? If so, please help a sista out with prices on
flush mount albums and mini-albums. Man, there is a ton of things
to decide on before going into this business and I'm finding there
is way too much to choose from.....HELP!

Hi all. I'm working on my website and noticed during my save and
view in browser window that my photos look somewhat grainy. Can
someone please tell me what the correct size and resolution
photographs are suppose to be when placed on a website for viewing
by potential clients?
Thanks in advance!

Calling all pro photographers...can you tell me which online service
you use to showcase your wedding photos to clients and "friends and
family" for viewing and ordering?

Thanks for your response and I don't mind you taking my photo and playing around with it. I guess you can do just about anything with your photographs just depending on what look your going for. I intend on playing around with my camera and new lens as I have an engagement session coming up on the 26th of this month. I appreciate your response!

I am a work-in-progress but slowing getting the hang of it. I've been shooting in full manual as I want to learn to shoot photographs so that I have total control of the outcome (not sure that's a good thing). I have taken a weekend workshop at the local visual arts school which provided a brief analysis on aperture, shutter speed, and my favorite, exposure; however, the teacher did not clue me into that the fact that there are 9 AF points. I'll check my camera but I can just about guarantee that's my problem as I feel all 9 are on. Well, it's all in the process of learn as I am a work-in-progress. I just received my lens for my camera and here are some test shots I did to see if I'm going to like the lens.<div></div>

Hi all! I have a Canon 20D and love it so far; however, I keep
having issues with metering and focusing. I have read the manual
but I learn easier visually. Can someone break it down for me on
how to correctly meter when you want a subject, say a bride, in
focus. I find that my auto focus doesn't always auto focus to the
correct subject/object therefore causing my person to be out of
focus.

I just read Bob Atkins review on the 20D-A that Canon is coming out
with. Is anyone going to venture out and buy one. I love infra-red
photos and apparently this camera has the capability of capturing
photos in infra-red. I just wanted to know your thoughts

Unfortunately I can't as I live in North Carolina and have searched all over this area and am unable to locate any place that rents camera equipment. Maybe I can use the 50mm until I can afford the 24-70.

How is the Sigma as far as picture sharpness?

Ok guys, I know that there are tons of threads on different lenses
and size but I have not found a thread specific to my needs. I have
a Cannon 20D with the lens Kit (which is ok but not great) and I'm
looking to purchase a good quality lens that I can afford. I would
love to have the 24-70 f2.8L but it is more than I can put down on a
lens right now as I'm doing 3 upcoming weddings for free just to
gain more experience. Once I start having some paying gigs, I will
upgrade. What lens do you feel is the "next best thing" to the 24-
70 whether it be a Cannon, Sigma, Tamron, etc.? I plan on
purchasing the 50mm f1.8 but would also like something in the 24-70
or 28-70 range lens. All comments are appreciated and so
needed....HELP.

Thanks for your reply. I may just give it a try.

Has anyone ever used this flash with a Cannon 20D? I'm on a rather
tight budget and found it for around the cost of $150. I know the
Cannon brand is probably better, but just starting out and doing
free work, I can't afford to spend tons of money on my equipment.

I am photographing a friend's wedding in November and was wondering
what type of lighting and how much do I need in order to make
african american skin look great in my photos, especially when my
friend refers to her fiance as dark chocolate? Any and all advice
is much appreciated.
I have a Cannon 20D with the kit lens and no flash at the momoent.
Thanks.

I finally got the pictures downloaded from all the great advice above, thanks to all who contributed a response. I do want to learn how to shoot and process RAW to determine which way I want to shoot photographs. I have a feeling I'll prefer RAW with all the things you can do with it. I'll put my two cents worth in once I become well seasoned photographers as you all. I hope Santa is good to everyone....Merry Christmas!!

I have a Cannon 20D and am trying to learn to shoot in RAW. I took
some photos of a family get together this evening just to get in
some practice but when I came back home to download the pictures
onto my computer the software acts as if I did not take any
pictures. It reads no pictures to download. Can someone tell me
what I'm doing wrong? Do I have to have a certain type of software
before I can transfer RAW files onto my computer? I thought that
the software program that came with the Cannon 20D kit would work
appropriately. Can someone help me out on this?

Easter play photo critique
in Lighting Equipment
Posted
I shot some photos of my church's Easter play and wanted to get some
critique on this one photo. It's my first shoot in a rather dark
setting and these two did a song together and I tried to position
myself so that I could get them both; however, it was very difficult.<div></div>
