Is it true that to become a member of the lnternational Cinematographers Guild (IATSE Local 600) it cost like $6000?
If true, is it one time thing or an annual fee? Does it bring ya lot of work just because you are a member ?
I'm considering joining as a still photographer.

Thanks!

How many pics can ya put with a 50d using 16 gigs flash card shooting full raw?
Is the Sandisk Extreme IV the way to go with it? How about Ducati?
Also does it have to be UDMA for 50d speed?
Thanks!

I think the new tilt and shift lenses are killer and If I had the money to blow I'd get them in a heartbeat! :)
The words "good and cheap" optical glass don't go together very well BTW

I have a client that wants to make a postcard out of a shot I took....
so I'm trying to find out fair royalties and fees.
-
How are royalties calculated on postcards?
I was thinking to charge something upfront for the shot plus a percentage based on the number of
postcards printed.
Does the postcard selling price need to be taken into consideration?
What's a fair percentage to ask? is 15% too much?
Any advice, links ya all ? :)
Thanks!

I use 16-35 2.8 70-200 2.8IS 600 f4 photo journalism, aerial, sports etc.
I'd like to be able to frame tight vertical and horizontal without using one shot and without
having to use the dang center point...How can you get a decent tight portrait of a moving
subject using the center point it's a mistery :). The outer brackets simply don't keep
up..specially on portrait mode.
I can only trust the center point; with outer AF points I get 30% of shots sharp.
How much faster is the 1D series?
Can you focus manually a lot better on a full frame body?
-
The 20d is a piece of junk...I'm fed up with it!
Since I'm thinking of upgrading to 1dm2 or whatever come up next,
how is the AF speed on the outer AF brackets compared
to the outer ones on the 20d...are they a lot faster?
Are they still a lot faster than 20d's if you combine different AF areas to get
a larger coverage area?
Does the full frame makes it easier to focus manually?
I'm sick and tired of using the center point to AF and the viewfinder it's too
small to really focus manually!
Thanks,
-
They replaced mine on a 20d body. It was drizzling and I guess It got wet.
I had the same banding with vertical straight black lines as yours...I guess.
Did yours get wet? I thought the 1Ds2 it's all sealed (?)

oooops yes august 29 not july....it's eleven months since......
-
I never shot in 2005, I got the heck outta here and went to Houston!
I just shot the arial work on July 27th 2006 , 2 days ago.
Today is exactly one year since Katrina hit New Orleans, that's why the comment.
-
It is one year later today. Pretty sad huh?
-
Almost...one year later, shot on July 27th.
it wasn't that sunny but just ok....I could have done much better
with sunny weather...and without doors/windows ! We flew at 450 feet.
If you'd like to see the aerial photos, there is a nice shot of the new flood
gate being built too:
-
I did change lens, I'll try that
thanks
-
Could this screw up be due to a wet camera/lens?
It was shot with a 20d and 16/35mm.
I saw the vertical lines in the LCD , but I thought was just the lcd acting up.
It was drizziling and I got a bunch of images like this after I exposed the gear to light rain for a while.
-
I'll do that...BUT...then you only get paid for the licensing later on?
Do you hold the images in the meantime?
"put together a price list or set of pricing guidelines that you can refer to in the contract.
That way the client knows in advance what they can expect to pay, even if they
are only estimating their usage. "
-
I agree that the best way of pricing is a creative fee plus licensing
each photo according on media, placement, size, circulation etc.
But how do you actually write a contract with a company that wants to hire you
if they don't know exactly how and when they'll use your work?
Do you just get paid for the creative fees right away, hold on to the files until they get ready
to use them, and then, figure out a license price?
It can take months before they actually get the layout of a brochure and see exactly
where/how your images will be used.
How do you all set that up?
Thanks!

I just received a replacement from Canon, the previous 70-200 2.8 had IS
problems and I'm flipping out on this below:
When I focus at something and zoom in or out afterwards the subject ain't sharp no more and I have to
refocus.
The manual clearly says the zooming after focusing may effect the focus, but I don't remember this
happening with the older 70-200 2.8!
Does yours keep the subject focused if you zoom in or out after you've focused?
-
I may go to the 9th ward to do a qtvr there...
-
and so most of the "out of the way areas", just to be fair:)
