1.
Rob G--I'm referring mainly to AF and shutter lag times. Canon says that the AF time of the G16 is 54% faster than the G15, which has the same sensor as my S110. The S120 and the G16 have the same sensor and processor. I don't really use manual focus on my G16 so I can't really speak to that with any authority.
Rob B--I agree that the RX100 (or G7X if one wants to stick with Canon) have superior IQ, but the smaller sensor S-series and G-series still produce excellent IQ that prints well up o 16x20, and they're significantly less expensive. Of course I'm not telling you anything you don't already know since you have vast experience with all of these.

 2.
I have both the S110 (the model just before the S120) and a G16. Both are superb, with the S110 making a perfect general photography pocket camera, so the same would apply to the S120. That being said though, the G16 is my favorite since it's faster in all aspects of operation (as would be the S120 since it has the same, slightly improved sensor and Digic 6 processor) and has a very fast f/1.8-2.8 lens. While the S-series and RX100 series cameras are stopped down to a smaller aperture at their maximum zoom, the G16 will still shoot at f/2.8 at max zoom, which is great for low light shooting.

 3.
This evening, the day after...

 4.
Sanford, that first shot of the boat is beautiful with such rich color! I may have been out in the snowstorm at the same time Adrian was, and not too far away in snowy Indiana. Here in central Indiana we didn't get nearly as much as the Chicago area did though, thankfully...

 5.
Which lenses are available for the Sony A6000? I am seriously considering that camera but don't know much about lenses available for Sony cameras as I have been predominantly a Canon shooter.

 6.
Louis, I think we could hang out and be friends. Cameras and guitars are two of my very favorite things!
Here's a shot I took on the way to work last Friday. It was -3F outside and the sun was putting on quite a show. I took a similar picture last year almost to the day (January 6, 2014 vs January 9, 2015!) with my little Elph 330 HS, but this year I shot with the G16.

 7.
That's a really cool picture, Chuck! The detail and the sharpness are both excellent!

 8.
Just a quick grab-shot while stopped on the road to see where these two were going...

 9.
Very nice, Robert. I have a 110ED20 (different from the 110ED in that it has an improved shutter with stepless speeds from 2s-1/1000s), but I've only put one roll (cartridge?) through it, and I have no idea what I did with the pics...I do remember that I was pretty impressed with the performance of the lens, though. Love the Kid 'N Play haircut! It's fun to see it making a bit of a comeback.

 10.
I second Mike's suggestion of the Minolta XE or XD series. The XE-7 is one of the nicest SLRs ever, in my opinion, and just exudes quality. They range in price on eBay from $45-$250, with the norm being somewhere in the $60-$125 range. I bought one from KEH in bargain-condition for $45 and even though it shows brassing, it's fully operational and was fully serviced. It's a beautiful camera that I personally like better than the X-700, better than any other Minolta actually except for the XD-11 maybe. The XE-5 is almost the same camera minus the aperture window and 1 or 2 other features. Les's suggestion of the Pentax ME-Super is also a great suggestion. It's also a superb camera.

 11.
Very nice pictures, Tony, and the camera is pretty good looking too!. Looking forward to seeing more!

 12.
Of the cameras you listed I would also pick the SX40 HS. But, I would go a step further and shop for the SX50 HS because it can be found for less than $350 ever since the SX60 HS came out. It has that crazy 24-1200mm zoom and it shoots RAW. On top of all of that it actually has really good image quality too. I bought one and was prepared to deal with its shortcomings but found myself impressed with the image quality, especially when converting RAW files to jpegs. Plus the zoom lets you get some amazing shots that you can't get with most other cameras. It feels very 'plasticky' and the EVF is not very good, but it's an incredibly useful camera that performs really well.

 13.
Nice shots, Robert! I really like "Misha" and "Cartography" a lot. Last August I received my late father's Vivitar SL/220 , and I'm looking forward to putting some film through it to see if I can create pictures as beautiful as he did with it. Thanks for sharing these!

 14.
Here's one of my favorites, the Minolta XE-7. It's such a pleasure to use with its buttery smooth film advance and shutter.

 15.
Daisy, in a moment of contemplation...

 16.
@ robert c. anderson--That's a fascinating bit of information about Galen Rowell and his Instamatic. Having been a huge fan of his for a long time, that's a tidbit I never knew!

 17.
This has been a wonderful discussion and has also breathed 'new life' into my 7D. Naturally I've been considering the 7DII, but to be honest I still really like my 7D and the results I get from it, and its overall performance is more than sufficient for my use and skill level. I plan to really work with the ETTR idea; I've seen people say that over the last several years but never really put it into practice, but I'm eager to work with the idea a lot more. Thanks to everyone who contributed to this discussion and lesson.

 18.
A few Fall shots from the banks of the Wabash river at Fort Ouiatenon, outside of West Lafayette, Indiana...

 19.
Here's one from a couple of years back, taken with my Pentax KX...

 20.
Wow! These are some impressive shots. I feel like I'm in a room of great photographers and should be taking notes! One of my all-time favorite cameras that just feels right when I hold it is the Nikon F3HP. It almost seems that the joy that I feel when I'm using it spills over into the pictures that I take with it, and things just seem to gel. I have other, more capable cameras (my FE2, for instance, with its much faster shutter and sync-speeds), but the F3HP feels magic.
