<p>As Marcus said it looks like a firmware problem. I had an issue with AF, it disappeared completely after reinstalling FW.<br /> You didn't tell us about the lens you use. I've got a couple of Canon lenses, they work OK with my 70D. One Sigma 70-300 APO lens requires -1 EV correction. I like the image quality of this lens, so this inconvenience is acceptable for me.<br> It could help us if you show some examples with exif data.</p>

<p>When I switched to digital ten years ago I asked exactly the same question. As I'm also rather poor man I started with the less expensive solution - factory provided software for developing raw files (in my case Canon), and GIMP for jpg processing.<br> And since then I only upgrade the software to current version... :-)</p>

<p>That's a photo taken 5 minutes ago in my kitchen. EOS 70D, ISO 100, EF-S 18-135 IS STM @64 mm, 1/125 s., F16, built-in flash.<br> I really don't understand your problem with light. From 1 ft you should be able to take photo at F32 with even very weak flash unit. Remember that exposure time is NOT what you set on your camera - in my case it was, I believe, about 1/30 000 s. - flash unit decreases amount of light by shortening duration of single "lightning".<br> Sorry for language mistakes, my English is still not as good as I wish... :-)</p><div></div>
