  1. Hello. I am looking for some comments from those of you who have

used this piece of equipment. I have seen some pictures taken with

the Lightsphere diffuser and was impressed with the result. It is my

understanding that the dome is to be used only with low ceilings and

outdoors. I am trying to picture in my mind how any diffusion would

take place with the dome removed. It seems that the spread of light

from the flash would not even be affected with only the bottom half

of the sphere on. Also, what do you do if the ceiling is high or

colored? Do you leave the dome on or take it off? Do you point your

flash head up or direct it at the subject? I have read the brief

tutorial on Fong's website, but just looking for clarification. Any

comments or information would be helpful. I would be using it with a

20D and 550EX speedlite. Thank you, Kristen

  2. Yes, I am having difficulty with that concept too. Maybe someone out there who has used it can tell us whether they prefer to use it with the dome on. Does it diffuse well with the dome off? I can't imagine how it would let enough light fall on the subject when there are high ceilings.
  3. Hello. I have been studying photography for a short while (about 6

months). I recently purchased a 20D. In short, a friend asked me on

very short notice to photography their wedding. They are close to 70

years old and on a fairly tight budget. A professional photographer

was ruled out. I volunteered to do it without cost to them-just for

the practice. Basically their situation calls for me or no

photographer at all. The wedding is on the 19th and will be a family

only ceremony. I am renting a canon 550EX and have never used a

speedlite. I am considering purchasing a lightsphere; I really like

some of the photos I have seen. My question is to those of you who

have used these. Any information would be helpful. Do you prefer to

bounce the flash? What if the environment is not conducive to this?

What are the results with direct flash? How is it used with vertical

shots? I would like to just mount it directly on the hotshoe. Also,

was the company slow in delivery? I will need in less than 2 weeks!

Does anyone have a contact phone number for this company? I was only

able to find and email to Gary Fong and I don't really have high

hopes that he will answer my email. Thanks in advance and sorry to

ramble. I know I am in deep with this wedding, but hope to at least

capture some good images for them. Kristen

  4. Hey Kathy, I am glad there is someone out there feeling the way I do. I am just getting into photography and bought a new 20D. When I got it I didn't know the first thing about digital! I was asking some of the most basic questions--a little annoying to some. However, I have learned a lot. I too appreciate all of you who take your time to share the information you have gathered throughout the years!
  5. Jessica,

I buy on ebay often and feel comfortable doing so. I recently purchased a 20D with two Canon lenses, CF card, extra battery, card reader, UV filters, etc for a significantly better deal than I found anywhere else. They were all brand new, factory sealed with warranty. This company is called Cameta Camera and they are authorized canon dealers. I was more than happy. If you do purchase from ebay, check that feedback is atleast 98% positive. I have never been burned (hopefully won't be). Hope you find a great deal!!

  6. I should have clarified. They just got engaged last weekend and are getting married on the 19th. Short planning time. Basically, they were happy just to find someone with a decent camera. I think they asked me because I will do it for the practice. They aren't paying me anything (except to cover my cost). They are both close to 70 years old and on a fairly tight budget. It came down to asking me or having no photographer at all. Thanks guys! Kristen
  7. Hello. I am new to photography and a fried has asked me to

photograph their wedding. It is an informal/family only wedding, so

not too much pressure. However, I want them to have some good images

to remember their day. I own a new 20D, Canon 50mm f1.8, kit lens,

and 75-300 4-5.6 (non IS). The wedding will be in a clubhouse at

5:00 PM. Will I be able to get decent pictures using on camera

flash? Or do I need to purchase a speedlite? I will eventually be

getting one anyway, when the budget can better allow for it. ANY

input would be greatly appreciated! Kristen

  8. Hello. I am sorry if this has been addressed, but I was unable to

find an answer in previous posts. I own a new 20D and will be

investing in new lenses in the near future. Besides retaining the

true focal length of the lens, is there any reason to avoid EF-S

lenses with this body? Will my images be detrimentally affected in

    any way? Thanks in advance.

  9. Hello,

I am just learning the basics of photography and have read several

books explaining aperture, shutter speed, depth of field, etc. I

have yet to get my hands on a book that explains the details of

lenses. I am interested in knowing what lenses are best for

different situations. Also what all of the terminology means (ie,

USM, fast/slow, etc.) I have a new 20D and will be in the market for

new lenses soon--I only have the lens kit and the 75-300 lenses.

Does anyone know if Barbara Londons "Photography" covers this? I am

considering purchasing this book. Any info would be appreciated.

    Thanks in advance!!

  10. Thanks all of you. Good information. Edward and Bob, you have a valid point. I don't really value their opinions on photography--But, I don't have enough confidence in my own information to offer any knowledgeble reply. The information you all gave is great. I had nothing to say to my friends except--that's not true. Now atleast I have some information to back it up. Kristen
  11. Hello,

I am fairly new to photography. I recently purchased a Canon 20D

with intentions of making this a serious hobby. I have been working

with the camera and have improved my images already (partly in thanks

to some of you in this forum). Just a quick question--I have been

told by a few friends who are not serious photographers that it is

not possible to get images as sharp with a digital camera (in

comparison to 35mm). This seems that it should be a complete

fallacy. Is there any truth to this statement? If so, why? Thanks

in advance for your kind reply!! Kristen

  12. Edward,

Like I said, I am new to digital photography. I have a lot of respect for those with much knowledge about this subject. I was just wanting to know what some of these great minds thought!! Like some have responded, it is a subjective thing. Just wondering if there is a rule of thumb. You don't have to answer "stupid questions"!!

  13. Hello again,

I posted last night regarding a lack of sharpness in my images. I

was given many suggestions which have helped already. I just wanted

to upload this test photo to get your input about the other major

problem I am having. I have a new Canon 20D with the lens kit and a

Canon 75-300 lens. I have always used a Canon Rebel (non digital)

with my pictures. Now that I have this camera the pictures have not

only lacked sharpness (the subject of my post last night--I think

this has been remedied), but have also been very dark. This test

shot was taken today in overcast conditions outside on a white sheet

of paper. On camera flash was used. All of my photos have been

really dark. Is there a setting I should change in my camera or is

this typical of a digital camera? I have had to really lighten my

pictures in Photoshop and it seems that this is affecting their

    quality. Thank you!!<div>00AjBe-21307184.jpg.88f0f4c64e2aa29645e9922bc032280a.jpg</div>

  14. Hello,

I am the owner of a new Canon 20d. I am still learning the basics of

photography and have never shot digital. Almost all of my photos are

lacking sharpness. I have been using autofocus and occasionally use

a tripod. With my Canon Rebel (not digital) I never experienced this

problem. What is most likely to cause a lack of sharpness in this

case. I have the lens that came with the kit as well as the Canon 75-

    300 lens. Thanks!! Kristen

  15. Hello!! I am just getting serious about portrait photography and

have been trying to find a local lab who offers printing on

professional paper. I like the textured look of the Kodak

professional paper, but do not have a high quality printer. Any

suggestions on where I could send digital images (burned to cd) to

obtain photos on professional paper? I don't even know where to

look. I know when I have had family portraits done, my photographer

always sent the pictures off to a lab. Any suggestions would be

    appreciated. Kristen
