1.
William, Thanks for all that good advice. In fact I do have a 1.4 Canon converter. That i used with my 300 until I got a crop digital body. I bought a 5d that is described as pristine on ebay by a seller with a 100% satisfaction rating. Canon did not say what was wrong with my 7d but they will fix it for $200US, which I think is their standard service charge.
The good news is I will have a full frame and a crop body and they can back each other up. The bad news is they are not the latest design.
I really appreciate all of the helpful advice from photo.net posters
Thank you so much for letting me benefit by your experience. A lot of good advice and things to consider. The body is on it's way to Canon Canada. I will make my decision when they respond. In the meantime I have a new Panasonic LX 100 4/3rds sensor, point and shoot, which is a great walking around camera, but no use in the studio.

 3.
My current body is a 7d. My subjects are primarily ,birds flowers insects. I also do family snapshots and a few studio portraits.
7d fills my needs. For some time, my battery would often discharge if I left it in the camera. The lens on the body autofocus on off did not make a difference. I took the battery out when I parked the camera or I just replaced it, if I forgot. Staff at my camera store told me it would cost $250 to repair it,so I just procrastinated, as far as solving the problem.
Yesterday I set up to do some studio portraits . I replaced the battery and the camera came to life. I put my Radio Slave 4i that I have been using for years in the flash shoe and the camera died. Changing batteries will not revive it. It will have to go to Canon for repair.
I know that I should have a spare body anyway, so what should I buy. Posters on this forum recommend the 5d. They are available at reasonable prices on ebay. Problem is, the design is 10 years old and technology is changing so fast, would a new "Rebel" not be a better alternative.

 4.
You do not say which 3rd party manufacturer you are considering. Sigma and Tamron make good quality lenses. I have a Sigma 180 F3.5 macro which has preformed flawlessly. I bought it new. You have to be careful buying used equipment. Make sure the seller has a 100% satisfaction rating and take into consideration why it is being sold.

 5.
Thanks Tudor. I have found most of the files. The problem I have with Lightroom is that I rename and put files in folders using the Lightroom library, and Lightroom does not always make the changes in the files on my data storage drive. I make changes in one session and the next time I access the Lightroom catalogue the files are moved and stored in another file by date. I could go back to just managing the whole thing on my data drive except that my operating system can't open CR2 files.
6.
I have been using Lightroom 5.7 for a couple of years. I import all my files thru Lightrooom and switch to Photoshop thru Lightroom so that Lighroom can keep track of my files. Recently I had to replace my motherboard and since then when I fire up Lightroom there are no images in the files, then it populates the image files from the top down and shows the number of images in each file. I don't remember that happening before.
I was cleaning up some files in Lighroom this morning. I closed the program. when I went opened Lightroom this afternoon there were no images and no files. The files are all on my hard drive and I can access them through Photoshop but Lightroom can not find them. Please help me.

 7.
When I select a CR2 file in Bridge and try to open it in Camera Raw in Photoshop I get the message in the attached Screen Shot. When I am in Photoshop I can go to my menu and select the file from my hard drive and it will open in Camera Raw . Problem is I do not get a thumbnail of my file before I select it. I can select the file in mini bridge and it will open in Photoshop Camera Raw. My software can read Raw files but I can't open them with bridge. I dont know how to post my screen shot so here is what it says.
Camera Raw editing is not enabled
Camera Raw editing requires that a qualifying product has been launched at least once to enable this feature.

00d0YZ-553223584.JPG.d91a04abd2b0bf1e9d64888a8e02a439.JPG

 8.
I have a 7d body and a 580 speedlight. When I shoot birds I shoot at the highest shutter speed I can manage. I normally set my flash to high speed sync and I can get a burst of light at 1,000 of a second. This spring My flash will not fire at faster than 1/250 of a second. I checked with the Canon representatives at their booth at the Migration Festival at Point Pelee. They emiled head office and the answer came back that a 7d body was not designed to sync at faster than 1/250 of a sec in Aperture Priority mode. Checked with the Canon expert at Henry's in Windsor ON,same answer.
I did it last year and if I knew how I could post the EXIF data from shots I took last year showing flash fired at 1/1000 of a sec. I know I was in aperture priority because that's the way I shoot birds.

 9.
When you sell on eBay, your market is the world. As others have said, put in a real good description of the items, explain why you are selling them, split them into separate listings, include the best photos you can take, research your shipping costs in advance . Put some effort into selling and you will be rewarded.

 10.
I have set up a series of images that I want to show to a group using a thumb drive attached to a W/D device which plugs into my projector. I have set them up in the proper order using Lightroom / Collections. They are in different formats, some CR-2 ,some JPGS and a few Tiff's. If I could manipulate them in Lightroom /Collections I would change them to JPGS- at 768p on the long side and number them consecutively, but I don't think I have that option. If I just load them onto the thumb drive and change the format , they will be in random order. Is there an easy way to perform this task using Lightroom/ Slideshows or Lightroom / Web

 11.
I have used non Canon inexpensive batteries in my 30D and 7D. I can't tell the difference. I doubt if Canon manufactures the batteries. They likely sub contract the job to a battery manufacturer. The manufacturer probably makes all the batteries to the same spec and put the Canon label on some and different labels on others. It's called the "Brand Tax" .
