  1. Hey Lutz :-) how's things? i think Ilkka explains my interest in this lens very well. Speed was one aspect, the way the lens draws the image another. I may end up getting the original 30mm but with a usable aperture of F8 once the centre filter is fitted, it makes it a tad slow especially when i'm use to my 1.4's on my M's!
  2. I tend to work in both camps: making scans for archiving and commercial work and making wet prints for exhibitions and portfolios.

I scan my 35mm TriX 400 negs usually shot with Leica or Xpan glass on a Nikon Coolscan 5000. I was able to get some good results with the Nikon Scan but preferred the flexibility of Vuescan for the last two years. However having recently upgraded my monitor, i have been experimenting with the Silverfast Ai Studio version for the Coolscan 5000 and have found the results to be better. YMMV.

I print my negs using Leitz Focomat enlargers and split toning them with selenium.

  3. Don, Rob and Raymond thanks for the info and replies.

Raymond: the combination sounds very interesting as i'd like to shoot wide open at F4 and gain some speed without having to use a center filter on an Xpan or Fuji 30mm which effectively then becomes a F8 lens. The smaller coverage would be fine so long as the way the lens draws the image is acceptable.

Don: i'm doing welll thanks how are things with you?

Rob: yes the equivalent FL was the question i was asking as i was thinking of what external viewfinder i could adapt to given me an visual indication of picture width for rough composition.

  4. Thanks Rob for the info. What confuses me a bit is that the 45mm becomes a 25mm or near to when in pano mode so i was expecting the 35mm to be wider when in the same mode? Lens has sold so i can't test it but i should be able to lay my hands on another in the next few months. I was just trying to research its history a bit but have found very little.
  5. Thanks for this info Rob. I think from what I've been able to read on the net the movement is 7mm left and right. I've mounted one on my Xpan, just not had the time to test it out before i consider buying the lens.

Do you know what the FOV/ Focal length would be when used in the pano format Rob? I could live with coverage up to 56mm.

  6. Not sure if this method will actually correct warped prints but this is how i get flat prints: After their final wash i air dry my fibre prints face up on the mesh screens (insect screen mesh i can't remember the exact name). Prints dry curly then i flatten for 30 secs between two pieces of card in an old Admeco Dry Mount Press that has heated up for 45 mins before ( temp guide long ago broken ). Perfect flat prints but you have to make sure the two pieces of card are clean and fully dried out first in the drymount press otherwise the print emulsion can stick to the card surface. Mine will handle 16 x 20 prints and if i print bigger they are just flattened in sections.
  7. I used one extensively for two long term projects over the last 3 years. The lens hood (12504) that was designed for this lens unscrews in the middle to fit the Series VII filters which are un-threaded as is the front of the 35/1.4 lens. It is slightly shallower than the 50/2 version lens hood (12358).

I used it mainly at f1.4 and f2 - soft at the edges at 1.4 but sharp in the center. It would only flare if pointed towards bright light sources (sometimes i had no choice but was better i found, if no filters were used)

My only 3 gripes: the lens hood that clips on kept revolving and the aperture ring was fiddly to use quickly. Also the lens focussed to 0.9m not 0.7m.

Overall i really like the results it gave.
