I have a Tamron 19-35 and I was pleasently surprised at how good it actually is. There's some curvature at 19 as I expected, but it straightens out nicely from 24-35. I think I'd still prefer a 24mm prime, but for the price you pay this lens gives you a lot of practical versatility.

Hmmm...the price at adorama didn't mention a 2500 flash or grip. I know that's how Minolta was marketing the camera, but perhaps they chose not to include it. I would also expect the pre-order price to be higher than the eventual retail price. The instore pre-order price at Henry's was $2200 (cdn) with a flash, a 24-80 lens and the grip. They're advertising it on their website for $2500 (cdn), without the lens. Maybe we should start taking bids on the price, eh? :)
If they're including a flash, grip and a lens, I think you're getting a lot more for your money than the 20d or the D70.

I've tried putting a bit of tissue paper in front of the pop-up flash when using the wireless system and it works well for softening the fill flash. Minolta also has a close-up diffuser that's worth checking out: http://www.bhphotovideo.com/product/63848/MICD1000/REG/655
The plastic build on the 70 isn't as solid as the 7 or 9, no. But I certainly wouldn't describe it as being flimsy. It does feel better than the 5, only because it's a bit bigger.

There's no grip for the 70, no. And you can expect the price on both the 70 and the 7 to drop once the 7d is out.
The 7 has a better construction, a larger viewfinder area, faster flash sync, faster shutter speed, a handy LCD screen, connection for a wired remote, eye-start, mmmm...I think that's about it when comparing it to the 70. Here in Canada, the 7 was more than double the price of the 70. I think the 70 is around $500 with a 28-100 lens, and the 7 body is $800-$900. For me, I have no reservations about saving cash and taking the 70. Put the money into a better lens I say.
The guesstimate for the 7d I've heard from a very reliable source is $2400-$2500(cdn). That would include a grip, a 2500 flash and I think one of the shnazy new lenses....Although that might not be with the lens...I'm after forgetting now :(

Sorry, my post wasn't clear. I meant to say that you can't disable the fill when using the wireless flash...or can you?

Thanks Michael, that clears up a few things. I just wish I had known you couldn't disable fill flash when I bought into all this. It probably wouldn't have changed my mind, but still.

Yeah, I recently splurged for the 5600 HS, making the same assumption and I can't get it to flash off-camera without using the pop-up. It's such a shame, I'm really happy with the camera, but this leaves a bad taste in my mouth.
