If I may piggy-back a question to this thread... What about using flash? I know it's used but I am worried that it might distract the cyclists. Am I wrong?
-
Sorry about your bookmarks; That's GOTTA be a pain to deal with!
Here's a link that might help you out:

Hi Joshua :) I am so gald that you're going to weigh in on this topic!
Yes, I did download the profile for the velvet version from legionpaper.com and I think I
am using it correctly but maybe I'm not. The thing is, when I soft proof the print in PSCS2,
the image looks muddy and blocked up in the shadows. It prints that way too! The
package is labeled "print on this side for best results" and I am making sure to use the
right profile for the ink I'm using (photo black).
I'm not sure what else to do but I would love to hear your suggestions. Thanks again for
responding to my thread!

So are you saying I should use the profile for Epson Velvet paper, Scott?
-
Hi all :) I'm wondering if any of you are using Legion paper and, if so, are you getting decent
results? I got a pack of their Somerset Photo Enhanced and while it's nice paper (feels good to
me anyway), I cannot get a b&w image to print worth a darn on it. Their profile seems to be
the culprit; It makes the image look dull and blotchy? But at least I should be happy that all
my calibration stuff is working right because, by golly, my prints come out looking just like
they do with the preview on PSCS2 - dull and blotchy!
Any advice?

I guess you would know, Brad, since you wrote the book!
(tee hee hee - sorry; Sometimes I am unable to help myself)
Seriously, I am looking forward to reading your book when it comes out :D

But what if you're NOT using the IT8 stuff? Those CMS settings have me confused as well.
Anybody able to help?

I use mine because roll film is cheaper, I can load it in the field without a changing tent,
and it's handy for when I need/want to bracket my shots. I don't do a lot of big prints so
having the big negative isn't all that important to me. I just like the movements that my LF
offers and having a roll film holder offers me the best of both worlds.

Hi Craig :) I have the RX500 which is great for proof prints and very handy indeed for
various administrative tasks. But I don't use it for final output; The Epson 4870 and 2200
handle those jobs. I would imagine the RX700 would be just as good or better as long as
you realize it's limitations. In other words, what are your goals? Are you looking to make
archival prints or are you looking for an all-around office printer?

Good to know, Jordi, thanks!

I had this happen once and it turned out to be a clogged nozzle; Ran the cleaning utility
and all was well. Sometimes it's the simple answer so do check. Hope all works out :)

I don't believe that the Epson software will allow you to accomplish what you're after
because it won't recognize anything but Epson's film holders and those won't work with
the size film you want to scan... You'll need to put the negatives on the glass and either
tape them (using scanner tape, available from Aztec) or some sort of carrier that you can
rig up. Basically, you just want to keep the film flat. If the film is flat already, then try just
laying it on the glass (I've had success doing that on occassion). Then utilize the Silverfast
software that came with your scanner. Hope this helps and good luck :)

Still seeking info...
Thank you :)

Some time ago, I had a problem with some memory I bought from Trans'Intl because of
something Apple did; They replaced my two sticks, no questions asked and even shipped
them to me overnight. Fantastic service there!
I have also bought stuff from Newegg and they are wonderful as well. Can't go wrong with
either vendor :D

Hi everyone :) I have a Mamiya 645Pro with the SV AE prism but I'm curious to know more
about the AE prism pro. I know the pro version offers more metering flexibility which
sounds good on paper but is it really "all that"? Worth the expense?
I'd love to hear your thoughts and opinions! Thanks!

Hi everyone! I have quite a problem on my hands and I am hoping for some advice. I have
an iView catalog that was created on a Mac (OS X) using iView MediaPro. I burned the
image files and the catalog to a DVD and brought it home to work on doing some sorting.
I first created a directory on my desktop and moved all the files from the DVD to my hard
drive. I did the same with the iView catalog. I then opened the catalog and I can see all the
thumbnails but they all say "file not found". So, I tried resetting the path. Didn't work. I
tried importing all the files to a new catalog and merging it with the old one. Didn't work.
The thing is, about half of the files have been color labeled (red for trash, green for
keepers, etc.) and I want to be able to take those files and put them in their own folders (a
rejects folder, selected images folder, etc.) and then continue on with the unlabled files.
That's why I made a copy of the original iView catalog in the first place, thinking it would
be an easy import.
I've looked at the manual, looked thru the FAQs at iView's site, cruised thru the forums -
all in an effort to solve my problem but so far, no go.
Can someone please help? Thank you so much :)

David, thanks for sharing your results. While it IS difficult to truly judge what's what on
screen, your intentions are notable and I appreciate your efforts. Take care :)

Thank you, Dan : You and everyone who has contributed to this most educational thread;
You've all been very helpful! And yes, fun is the plan!
-
Kelly, do you mean to practice focusing with an UNreversed enlarging lens?
And Dan - I've seen you mention the Tominons in other threads too. Can you expain how
those might be mounted?
Thanks :)
-
Michael, for one exploring this new territory, details are so helpful. Thank you very much :)
-
Okay, so if I understand this correctly... If I wanted to produce an image of an object with
6x magnification with my Shen-Hao that offers a max bellows extension of 360 than I
would need a 50mm enlarging lens. Is that right?
And what about mounting? Where, besides Schneider, does one get the adapter rings? Is
this something B&H would carry?
Sorry to be obtuse but this is brand new for me and I want to make sure I'm going down
the right path. Thanks for the very helpful information so far!
-
Dan - sorry, I was asking if that particular focal length (135) was a reasonable one for such
purposes.
Ted - aren't dedicated LF macro lenses kind of expensive?
-
Just curious... would a 135mm Nikon enlarging lens work well for the purpose of macro
photography? Thanks!!
