Very nice capture. Try to ignore the 3s and 4s from the cowardly unknowns...

Black Oystercatcher captured in a rare inshore visit near San

A wonderful wonderful shot. These birds are difficult to see on an outing let alone get a clear shot. Perfect environmental capture.

Just an everyday mallard.... However, you gave it that extra "pop" (lighting, background, and most of all angle) that makes it unique. Well done!

Of course it's post processed. ANYONE can SEE that! But Yuri is expressing his artistic feeling for the photograph of this particular moment in time. Most of us have mastered shutter speed, f-stop, filter useage, etc. Most of us have even been lucky enough to be in the right place at the right time to use that learned knowledge. Yuri is pushing the envelope of our ART using a simple photograph, a "snap shot" if you will, as the inspiration. Artists like Yuri inspire us to break through the "been there, done that". Keep it up, Yuri! Let's keep pushing the envelope. It's ART for goodness sake!

Good shot, Scott. I just learned the other day that mourning doves are one of only a few birds that actually suck water and drink like most mammals. They have a great need for large volumes of water. Whereas other birds fill their beaks, raise their heads, and let gravity do the rest.

That's nuts! Perfectly put....BTW, 6/7

Excellent job with the exposure, comp., and background. The wonderful exposure of the white breast feathers while retaining the detail in the dark shoulders is spot on. Nice offset perch with the feet at different heights adds to the drama of the scene. 7/6

Leroy,
Nice image. The background, color, contrast, and especially the exposure are just right! Good detail in the darker face. Do you use center-weighted metering? Where did you capture the bird?

I like it very much. Where did you capture it?

Thank you for your comments.
Dieter, I made a copy with changes as you suggested. I like it! I'm always torn between a "worked image" and an "environmental image". If I call myself just a photographer I would have to go with the latter. If I call myself an artist I would go with the former...I do consider myself an artist. As always, I appreciate your comments.
Thanks,
Ray

I've shot from this location before. It's a difficult place to use a Grad ND filter. So your idea of using high dynamic range was a good one. Perhaps you could work on the tone and colors of the reflection to match that of Half Dome. Also, I don't know if it's just me but I think the horizon is a bit tilted to the left; note the vertical trees in the background and Merced River.

I would appreciate any C&C.

I really like this image. It seems we are always viewing ospreys in a dramatic fish capture or landing high up in their nests or defending their territory. I hope for a dramatic photo like that someday... However, it's nice to see them relaxed, taking a drink of water like the rest of us!

Ray
