Rufous Hummingbird at the feeder.

My hunt for hummingbirds is on now - need to look for more natural

looking shots. How's this for starters though - at a feeder. Thanks

Pretty good shot Dale, the feeder is distracting, I think you need a longer zoom lens so you can isolate the bird, good luck.

Brian, agreed - I was using my 70-200mm at full zoom from 10 feet or so but I was worried that my 200-400mm was too slow. I will have to experiment more next time.

No problem Ellen, thank you too. The little bit of red on it was only visible to me as "red" when the sun caught it so I had to time the shot when he darted in and out of shadows.

Try getting a window feeder. You can shoot from the inside for nice closeups

I'd say for the first hummingbird shot, you did pretty good. I'd have loved to see more of the feeder, but the point of focus is the bird. Great exposure and DOF. BTW, I enjoy your nature shots. Good portfolio, and some nice things to learn from.
