vancouverphotographer 1 Posted April 3, 2007 My hunt for hummingbirds is on now - need to look for more natural looking shots. How's this for starters though - at a feeder. Thanks for looking. Link to comment
jmcconnell2 0 Posted April 3, 2007 Pretty good shot Dale, the feeder is distracting, I think you need a longer zoom lens so you can isolate the bird, good luck. Link to comment
vancouverphotographer 1 Posted April 3, 2007 Thanks a lot Jim and Brian. Brian, agreed - I was using my 70-200mm at full zoom from 10 feet or so but I was worried that my 200-400mm was too slow. I will have to experiment more next time. Link to comment
rogerleekam 0 Posted April 3, 2007 Stunning image. Color, composition & focus excellent. Don't know if it would qualify for a Nature competition because of the feeder, but outstanding pictorial. Link to comment
vancouverphotographer 1 Posted April 3, 2007 Thanks for the confirmation Ray. A few of these guys look a bit similar, hard to tell. Link to comment

jeverz 0 Posted April 6, 2007 How beautiful! I like his red feathers in the face. (Thanks for your com. and happy easter!) Link to comment
vancouverphotographer 1 Posted April 6, 2007 No problem Ellen, thank you too. The little bit of red on it was only visible to me as "red" when the sun caught it so I had to time the shot when he darted in and out of shadows. Link to comment
dennis jones 0 Posted April 8, 2007 Try getting a window feeder. You can shoot from the inside for nice closeups I just wish they would show up here..... Link to comment
yankfan 0 Posted April 8, 2007 I'd say for the first hummingbird shot, you did pretty good. I'd have loved to see more of the feeder, but the point of focus is the bird. Great exposure and DOF. BTW, I enjoy your nature shots. Good portfolio, and some nice things to learn from. Link to comment
