I'm thinking of doing some mist/fog images but somehow I'm a bit afraid I don't kow how to handle those kind of images...this is a good example however of how it should be done, at least in my humble opinion

not much more to say. If I would need to critisize any thing in the image i would say less crop on the right: I would have liked it better if I could see the coastal line all the, now it is cut of at the right (hope you understand waht I'm trying to say..)
  1. Yep..fog was what i wished for that day. Day started out with a wet sun, then grey yet no fog :(. only positive i that was that the contrast weren't too big. Eventually it became sunny, unfortunetaly right after noon...nice colors but white plaster walls got over exposed while the least of shadow becam e pitch black...ah well it made me work real hard on the camera trying to make the best of it. Alltogetehr i learned a lot and enjoyed myself.

I love the way the image is covered in the shade except for building (monastery?). Was it coincidence or did you wait for the sun o shine on it?
  2. Well Ada first to say this is simply a good and pleasnt photo in my opinion. Clear subject, lovely colors, despite there is a lot to see it's not too crowded with too much to see, (you know this photo's where you really don't know where to look or what it was the photographer wanted to show)

Concerning the "postcard-issue", most people who think that "post card" photo's are worthless are rather silly in my opinion. Postcard are good enough to be sold by the millions...so not saying when somefink is sold by the millions it by definition is good but there must be somefink good in it.

I think there is this "steps-of-personal -photographic-evolution" : you start shooting crap, then you read some tips and you start shooting "better then ordinary vacation shots" (Still far from perfect but obviously can be seen you put an effort in it), then one day you hit the "postcard level": technical 99% good images, good exposure, composition in order, good subject, all together the perfect vacation photo's. However what is lacking is some personal input, it is doen all by the rules, almost copies from other images. Mnext step is "art" level, which not necesarrliy mean fine art photography, still good be vacation photo's, landscapes, portraits what ever. What I try to define with "art' is that besides it techniscl perfect the image has an own personal signature: a postcard like image is anonimous, could be done by any one. This next level you start recognising the personal style.

So long story point is: most people never even reach the postcard level because the dive in too fast skip the technical aspects of photography make awfull images and use the term "art" as an excuse...I'm still struggling to reach that postcard level, you however have reached it long time ago and are allready with one big step in the next and highest level.

Tjeee what a long way to say well done ! :)

  3. I truly like this one: it is different then the usuall images of acropolis (or any other old, anient, ruins) which tend normally to be "pure" : no humans, no distractions fom modern items like cars, modern signpostsvetc. I think this one really works from the angle it is taken gives it real wideness. Als the tourists (??) and the equipment on the right give it on documentary feel about it but with style!

    great photo in my opinion!

A combined portret with landscape photograpy, good combo in this case!

The composition is probably not by the rules and debatable whether "it works", for me it does!

    Atlantic

Classic seascape, good compositon aspecially the tree silhouete afar gives it a special touch.

What pleases me also is the color palet: nicely monotome without overkill off deep oranges, purples and reds..but instead this has a nice non shouting calm atmosphere!

    Great!

Saw this one allready long time on your personal website, took you a long time to publish here :)

As usuall you amaze us withoutstanding work.

Minor pint of critique might be that imho I would have skipped the road at the bottom, but eh...I would not have been there at the rigth time catching this image

    .

    keep them coming!

, good composition. You done it again. I like the light and detail. Only thing that is lacking in my humbble opinion is some small contrasting (in color or subject) element in the image. Could be a cyclist somewhere in the middle of end of the road or s, just somefink to "break" the green a bit. But beside that great image!
  4. Nice one Hans, I think your right with the figure in the scene. For reasoins I can't comprehend myself I think this is a real original image. All elelements of a landscape are present yet executed in a original manner:

Foreground done by the pool in fornt, Figure in the middel and the clouds/mist and mountains in the background.

could be used in a magaizne straight away!

  5. Nice and clean image

    clear subject, no distractions, calmness.

natural (not too harsh, satured) colors.

    I like it!

the idea of the abundance of blue sky might at first seem "overkill", but in the end it does work for me

  6. Again a superb landscape!. Aspecially the way the sun bursts open the shadows. Still trying to make a shot like that. I suppose it takes patience and a trained eye.

What I'm missing on this one however is somefink strong on th eforeground. It misses some kind of primary point of interested. Then again who am I to critique, consider my own level of photography ;)

Keep up the great work !

Colors are good and serene, whole image has calm look .

I think too much soace around the boat. A portrait instead of landscape setting have been better for this on I tink and gettiong a bit more close.

Foreground looks a bit dark on my monitor

    No fish today

Rated too low by others in my opinion.

This one has a clear single subject but with some other elements making it a bit playfull in stead of a "single object in magic light photo", good use of DOF, And yes far more original as another landscape at dusk or dawn in magic ligt with a single three on one of the "rules of third given points" taken in Toscane, Colorado or one of those obvious photogenitc places.

So maybe not perfect it does have that Travel/National Geographic look feel for me. If it was something missing it would be some kind of reference where gepgraphically this was taken. I would guess Meditereanea but it could be any where I guess.

  7. I think th elavish green and the rolling hills are a real good subject in this image. However I took a long look at this one to figure out what was bothering me and finally found out:

There is just too much different "area's" in this image of which some are not pleasing too me or just not that interesting: starting with the in my opinion less interesting area's:

    1) the sky is rather blurry and pale

    2) The darker green in the middle right of the photo, it's a bit too busy, too dark and greyish green compared to the bright green on the left abd foreground

The good area's are I think: well obvious as mentioned before the bright green field, the vague foggy background and the road in the foreground.

So basically I think I would have liked the photo better when is was more focused on the road, the bright green field and just a small portion of the sky

Hope I was not to negative

I like tthe idea but I would like to add that the top of the image should be cut off, get rid of those Half people and legs. Secondly next time maybe make sure straws of the drink are completly in the picture.
