Thanks, Carolyn! I was hoping you'd chime in on this.

I'm looking at buying a copyright stamp for use on the back of my prints. I've
seen statements on some vendor sites that say the copyright stamp must include
the year in order to "protect" the copyright adequately.
However, I thought that the stamp isn't needed to protect the copyright at all
in a legal sense. If this is true, then the copyright stamp on the back would
just be a deterrent to the people who might try to copy the prints and a notice
to any photo labs that the photos are professionally done.
I know that a couple of attorneys frequent this forum. Do any of you have input
in this matter? Does the year need to be included on my copyright stamp, or is
this just a marketing tactic by the stamp companies so that I will buy a new one
each year?

Regit, those are powerful photos with a moving story. Thanks so much for sharing. Love like that is amazing and inspirational.

I like it in Ilford DD-X. Here's an example:

You might try the botanical gardens near the University of North Carolina Asheville campus.

Todd,
Yes, there are definitely people who get $5,000 and up for doing a wedding. My cousin and her husband are wedding photographers, and their packages start at $3,500. I know they've booked at least one $6,000 package. You might swing over to Open Source Photo. David Jay, the founder of the forum, starts his pricing at $10,000 and I know he's booked nearly every weekend.

I lived in that area for several years and visited Shaker Village several times. First of all, you should probably know that if you want to see the inside of the buildings, you will have to buy a ticket. Also, I know that there are several hiking trails on the grounds (including several near the river..follow the signs to the boat ride). As the previous poster said, the grounds themselves are very beautiful. The few hikes that I went on meandered through some beautiful areas.

The countryside around Harrodsburg and Shaker Village is also beautiful. There are rolling hills, stone fences, and plenty of trees. The palisades of the Kentucky river are also in that area, on the Lexington side of the road that goes by Shaker Village.

Enjoy your trip!
Does anyone have a report on the status of the rhododendron bloom this
year in Redwood National Park? I'll be going there next week, and I'm
hoping to catch the bloom.

I'm still using all film. Why? Because it's cheaper for me -- I can't afford the $8,000 Mark II yet, and $8,000 will by a LOT of film and processing. Also because I enjoy it and I love the look.

Thank you all for taking the time to look over my site and give me feedback. Anne, your description of your flow through the site was especially helpful. I will definitely take all of your comments into consideration as I revise and improve the site over time.

I too use the Bogen 3021 with a three way pan-tilt head. The only downside is the tripod/head combo weighs over 10 pounds! I backpack with my setup, so it gets a bit heavy. The 6x7 trannies are worth the effort though.

Thanks for the very helpful critique, Jewan. I'll take your ideas into consideration when I do my first site revision.
Are you looking at the site on a Mac or a PC? The brightness level of the image looks about right to me, but I'm not using a calibrated monitor yet, either.

Hi. I've been hanging out in this forum for quite a long time, but I
haven't posted much because I feel like many of you are much better
than I. However, I'm venturing into the world of the photo business,
and I just finished my website. I'd appreciate any critiques that you
might be able to offer: <a

Thanks, everyone!

Arthur,
I shot those at 3200 with normal development (i.e. the Kodak recommended time for 3200).

I've had good success using this film/scanner combo. I'm using the Canon software though. Here's a page with a bunch of images from this combination: Band Shots. (Some of them are much better than others. I screwed up the exposure on some of them. If they're too dark, it's the negative, not the scan.) I just use the default scanner settings. They images did need a bit of post-scanning work in photoshop to fix the black level and overall brightness though...

I've had good success with TMAX 3200 rated at 1250-1600 and developed in TMAX developer.

I have an RB. There is NO WAY that I could use it handheld. It is very heavy and bulky.

I live in California. I live inside the Chico city limits, so I have to get a business license. (However, this is not specific to photography.) I also use a business name, so I had to file a Fictitious Name Statement with the county.

For those of you who use proof boxes, how do you keep track of the images for ordering purposes? Do you stamp a number on the back of each print?

I live in Chico, California. Unfortunately, I am absolutely unable to
set up a darkroom for printing in the place where I am living. Does
anyone know of a rental darkroom in the Chico area? (I'd also be
interested in a rental darkroom in Redding or Sacramento if there
isn't one any closer.)

I pay 9.95 for a low-end package at Root Route I have 200MB of storage and 1GB of transfer. When I signed up that account included all the program tools I wanted, including a PostrgreSQL database. Now, you have to get the next plan up (14.95 a month -- also gives extra disk space, etc.) to get PostgreSQL. The basic plan still allows you to have a MySQL database. I pay monthly, but they do offer discounts if you pay quarterly or annually.
I've been very happy with the service and the hosting. I would recommend this company.
