MP all day....
-
i bought a chrome 35 'lux instead, when i had originally planned to get a black one, and let me tell you, its HEAVY. almost twice as heavy as a black one. its built like a tank. if you turn the aperature ring on a black one, then do it on a silver one, youll see what i mean. it definitely feels like the lens will never malfunction in your lifetime. which is why i bought it. the downside though, is that it makes your M so heavy that you really dont want to walk around all day with the camera around your neck anymore. as great as the lens is, and as much as i paid for it, im really thinking about getting a smaller 35 as an everyday in the street lens.

dont touch that lens!! send it in! i had that same problem. bought a 28 elmarit used. it was fine for a few years, although i did notice the clicks werent nearly as crisp as my other lenses. but i used it anyway, and it was fine. then about a month ago, i pull the camera with the 28 on it out of my bag, the the aperature ring was loose, you could pull it forward and backward, and the ring turned totally smoothly. no clicks at all. it was like, somehow, the whole front part of the lens barrel moved up a few cms. i dont know how else that much space could form, where the ring could be pulled up and down. anyway, took it to tamarkin, and they sent it out. turns out that that problem can either be a cheap fix, or very expensive. theres a little ball bearing in there that makes those clicks, and its like the tighter a fit all the lens pieces are around the aperature ring, the more defined the clicks will be. if the ball is still there, perfectly round, and can be picked out and reset, then its a cheap fix. they just resent it, relube all in there, pack the rings tight, and thats it. the expensive fix happens when that little ball gets crushed, because the lens barrel has been turned alot with the ball not properly set. so dont touch it!!! send it in somewhere, esp. to tamarkin. now, my lens clicks are actually way more defined than before, which is great.

the voightlander is pretty much all youre going to find. i bought one to see if i liked using a 28. it was a great lens. i sold it when i bought an elmarit, but i actually wish i kept it.

i just got an mp too, a black one, and traded in a black 35 summicron asph for a chrome 35 'lux asph. the cron was my favorite and most used lens, so i figured id get a 'lux right before the price increase. the 'lux is great, but it is bigger, and with it being chrome, almost twice as heavy. while my 'lux is still my favorite lens, i definitely miss my 'cron, and will definitely get one again at some point in the future.

seems like alot of people are buying MPs now. that makes me feel a little good. i just got a black paint one 2 weeks ago, and love it. i said i'd never take my silver 35 'lux off my m4, but i did, and its on the MP. i was skeptical at first, but now i love how it looks.

yeah i just realized after some research on the mp classic that their price would probably be about the same anyway, a-la-cartes are so expensive. or i could just get a black m4, which coule be even cheaper!! that's actually what i want, and what i'm trying to get to with a meterless MP....
-
i havent seen that as an option on the part of leica's site where you
can design your a-la-carte, but that would actually make buying one
more attractive for me........

i had been asking people the same question!! it seems like i always see 24s for sale. i hear its a great lens, but i always see people selling it. i had been looking to get a leica 21 used, and couldnt find one at the time, but saw plenty of 24s. i considered getting one, but ended up getting what i really wanted. didnt want to pay alot of money for a lens that i too may not like. im pretty sure i would love a 24 and would buy one if i had extra money.<div></div>

i bought an m4 a few months ago, and im trying to get another one now. my favorite m body for sure.
-
i guess the question is answered already.....i have a 12 inch powerbook that fits perfectly in my domke. so my camera bag is now my laptop bag.
-
theres also that bag that i guess is supposed to be for a leica, that pretty much
will only hold one camera, and maybe a lens. they have them at tamarkin in
new york.

I have one, and it's a great lens, AND it's for sale!! i bought it to see if i would like shooting with a 28, and i do, so i bought a leica 28 shortly after i bought this lens. i am selling for $300, adapter included...... people have been emailing me from this forum with regard to the lens and i haven't responded. please forgive me, i've been very busy. the lens is for sale though...thanks.

for me, it just came down to how much usage im going to do with the lens. i had a 50 summicron, loved it, but i sold it because i didnt use it that ofter. then, just 2 days later, i was in a situation where i would have liked to have had a 50 in my bag. i decided on the nokton for two reasons. 1) i didnt want to pay full price for another summicron, nor 500-600 for a good used one, and 2)the nokton is reportedly good, its fast, and its design is on the summicron. we're talking leicas here, so while you say the canon is cheap, the nokton is certainly cheap, compared to most lenses for M's, especially for a new lens.

if you're patient, you can definitely find a 'new' or almost new latest version elmarit for about a grand. i bought one for 1100 a little while ago....
