I tried a Summicron Asph at f2 you had to be very carefull (and accept some missed at the close range) but from f2,8 anf onwards it was fine.
The lens did not intrude in the wiewing field in a way that it was disturbing

The R3 is not THAT bad, even though most of it is a minolta, but the price seems a little high unless the camera is very good. The R3 is quite heavy and wiewfinder is not as brught as the newer cameras, amd optics have a VERY high standard
I have a R3Mot with a 35f2,8 (with "serie filter retainer ring" cab and #12564 hood) in EXC++ condition (and 100% working and have been for years). (the only flaw I can find is that the light seal is a little detoriated but not enough to inflict pictires, even with ISO400 film in wintersunshine)
Yhis I have for sale at US$ 350 so far no takers but price is firm

I started with the 28-135mm and have used it a lot and liked it, but when doing portrats i used a 50f1,4 / 70-200 - but after I got the 24-70 both the 50 and 28-135 was sold because of no use.
There is only 2 things I dont like about the 24-70 - size & weight - I came over the price after seeing the pics.
My recomendation is the 24-70 (but check size & weight) - and perhaps the Tamron 28-75 :-)

I have the leica 10x25 and a Nikon 10X25 (this is 5-7 year old, the Leica is 1 year) I broght these + a No name 10-25 on a trip to USA last year.
My wife & children (who couldent care less about Leica versus others) tried all 3 and after first comparison they did not want to take another look in the NoName all 3 prefered the Leica but the Nikon could do, but the Leica was first choice. - the colors was better / more clear (their words).
The Leica is the Blue version i got at a (for Denmark) good price
I don't have first hand on the Zeiss / Swarovski

The AE system of the CLE is taking the reading on the shuttercurtain, from 1/1000 to 1/60 after that the meter "looks" om the film base, the reading is done DURING the exposure not like usual BEFORE.
Typical filmbase is light grey - if the film you are using is darker this could be the problem - the camera are using standard silveroxide batteries.

The adapter I have is from CameraQuest Stephen Gandy [leicanikon at earthlink.net] very well made!
As far as I know it will fit any EOS camera and alnost all LeitzR lens (perhaps with an extension on some wich protrudes long into the camera

"I know that this lens will lockup a 1D-MK2 "
Well at least not on my 1D M2 - not even a single time, nor did it lock up on my D60.....

Hi Travis
Congrats with your child!
You have experienced, what all of us that have kids have - when you get a child nothing will be the same lots of things you could do before without thinking (like going out, time for yourselwes/hobies, sleeping in the nights!) is a lot more dificult.
But look on the brigt side You have new model to photograph - just remember to bring your camera to capture some of the "moments" - you will love the pictures later - and they do grow up fastern than you expect.
-
At F2.0 you need to be very careful, but it can be done. At F2,8 and up it is OK (the framing is small, but the rangefinder patch is clear (at least on mine))

The Elmar was after the Hektor 4,5 and even if this isent as sharp as the next(the Tele Elmar) this is still a very nice lens - and a bargain in Leica-Land!
