  1. Don't even waste your time. I've received this same style email a few times last year. It's a scam. They do it to all wedding vendors, even DJ's and florists.

The latest one I receieved said "his daughter" was getting married at his mansion and gave me an address that was for a big downtown hotel.

  2. I too am strugling with this. I want to get another D2X and wondering if I'm going to miss that $500 credit if I wait a few more months.

$500 credit towards other equipment now? Or wait a few more months and see how much lower the price gets... hhmmmm

I shoot weddings and my wedding season doesn't really start until April. So April would be the latest purchase date for me.

  3. Ilkka - My wife shoots with me. We each cary 1 D2X and 1 D70. I'm looking to replace the D70's. Mainly for post-processing reasons so that all the photos have a universal color tone. As I understand it, the D200 share the same image engine as the D2X. For the price, the D200 really packs a lot.

Nikon is really looking smart right now. Just like the D2X kind of fell between the 1DSMk2 and the Mk2 at the right price, the D200 is falling between the 20D and 5D at the right price.

  4. Ken Rockwell fails to even mention the AF system on his D200 vs D2X page. It's almost as if he's getting paid to push the D200.

I do feel a small touch of resentment that they packed so much into a $1700 body, having already purchased 2 D2X's. But don't get me wrong, I love the D2X and wouldn't trade it in...

Now let's see what Canon announces next week =)

  5. Maybe I'm just used to the 80-200 as they behave differenlty. Has to be "operator error"... =\

Don't get me wrong though, I do love the VR and the fact that I no longer need a monopod to shoot low light. That reason alone is worth the money.

  6. Hello out there! I haven't posted in months but I just wanted to see

if anyone share the same opinion as I do.

First off I see that Shun is now sporting a D2X. I knew he wouldn't

    wait that long!

I've been shooting with both the 80-200 and the 70-200VR this wedding

season. And I'm finding that the image quality on the 80-200 is far

superior to the VR. I'm now only using the VR during dark lit church

ceremony when flash is not allowed. And the VR is far more expensive.

Makes me wanna snatch an AFS version of the 80-200 from ebay or

    something...<div>00Drbn-26075684.jpeg.60c4827494900db56222b16b5d040eac.jpeg</div>

  7. Like Chris, I use mine all the time even at the reception. When you want to get candids, it's better not to be in front of the subjects as you will get more natural reactions rather than being in front of their faces all the time. I use the 17-55 to get closer during the important dances of course, but the 70-200 comes in handy when you want to take snapshots of those stolen moments that you would never get when they see you pointing your camera at them.

Here's a 70-200 shot handheld at a ceremony where we were only allowed to shoot from the back of the church with no flash allowed. (YES, the back of the church) Shot at 200mm available light.<div>00C7yH-23392284.jpeg.46dece21b6017b338777424a8c4b3284.jpeg</div>

  8. Michael - Even if this customer finds this post, I think they'll appredciate the fact that I'm seeking advice from other professionals. I'm not revealing names nor images so no harm no foul.

I'll be giving it to her in a separate package. I'm sure they'll be shocked at first but they will laugh about this a few months from now.

    Thanks for the advice all!!!

  9. Well let me re-phrase that. Not "hide"... delete is more like it...

And it's really hard to catch a nipple popping out through a viewfinder when it's a quick dip. I have other things to worry about like exposure, I don't exactly look out for things like this to occur.

I'll just give her the files and let her do what she wants with it.

  10. I did a wedding a couple of weeks ago. There were several images

where the groom dips the bride with really nice backgrounds of the

skyline (in Chicago). So I'm almost positive the bride will be

    looking for these photos.

So the problem is, her boobs kept popping out everytime he dipped

her. And of course, this we didn't notice until we saw the photos on

the monitor. Do I just play dumb and say I don't have any to save her

from an embarrassing moment. If not, how do I break it to her?

  11. The only drawback I can see with the D1X is the NIMH battery. It won't last as long as your D70. But the D1X has a lot more professional characteristics than the D70 and probably has nicer tonal range.

I'm assuming a new D70 is still cheaper than a used D1X. Get a D70 and save up for the D2X.

  12. I've been shooting compressed Raw only because I haven't upgraded my PC. I'd eventually would want to shoot uncompressed RAW+Jpg Fine. I get about 170 compressed Raw per 2gb card.

I haven't experimented with compressed vs uncompressed. But for my purposes, the prints are outstanding. I've printed 20x16 untouched Jpgs with stunning quality.

But for me, it wasn't a card issue, but more of a PC processing issue.

  13. Richard - I use the shooting banks storing white balance for indoor avail light, outdoor, & flash. Since I don't have time to reset with white/gray cards when I go indoor and outdoor, I have my outdoor set to a temperature (K) that I set in the beginning of the day. The rest of the shooting banks are usually indoor so I have all of those set to pre using the white/gray cards, and reset as needed.
  14. Sorry a little late on the response here. I haven't been online for a week now.

I've done 6 weddings with the D2X and have no exposure problems. I do the same thing Rich does, setting my LCD low and shoot with the highlight warning on. I usually kick it up to .7 indoors. Using the white bounce card works great if you want to get the background into your shots.

Only issues I have are the color purple and red. For some reason, my D70's white balance is easier to set. I've seen my purple colors turn more blue and my red turn more purple-ish. Even when I use a white/gray card to set white balance. I know most cameras have this problem in the first place. I even know some photographers that actually state on the contract that they don't color match purple. But I was just a little concerned that my D70 gets it better than my D2X. But it could just be the lighting conditions during my shots. I'm not certain until I do more weddings with those colors.

  15. I'm not as qualified as every one else on this board but here goes...

I do agree the bottle is distracting. BUT, if you were shooting as an assistant, it's difficult to get clean shots as you are left to work with the space you did not choose yourself. I'm sure the main shooter would have set up the shot cleanly and have that covered. I'm sure there are full shots of both the cake, bride and groom. I myself shoot both just the hands and cake as well. I actually think that shot adds nicely to the pickings.

My favorite is the communion (SP?) shot. That's definitely an album candidate!

    I see you're shooting both D70 and D2X... =)
