As I replace my dead K20D by a K5 I can say that it's another camera in terms of image quality. The K20D was good, but it was a super K10D, the K5 is excellent with a better dynamic for low and high lights.

It's a good thing for this excellent camera. I hope that Pentax will be better known as an expert brand.

problem

Another autumn picture

Sorry. I was very attached to my K20 D. Mine was broken while I'd connected it on my PC. Circuit breaker in house switch off and the camera have two damages, failure of internal flash and socket for USB cable burnt. But it works. Cost of repair is 478€ so I'll not repair for it's more than the value of a second hand K20 D camera here in France. I got a K5 which is more performant than the K20D.

Yesterday I bought a second hand K5. I'll give my opinin after but I think is a good camera, better than my K20D who died while I connect to computer via USB !!!!.

First and third pictures are fantastic. Good work.

-

In my opinion 42mm lenses are better with my IST-DS than with my K20D. Color rendition is slightly bad like a third party film.

Two last are very good. Other, less.

Elements of the adaptation

It's possible. Look.

No problem with a generic battery like NP 400 same as Sigma and Minolta cameras. Sounds in back and front focus for some samples.

-

420 mm is good, but in fact with the reduced image sensor it becomes a: 210*1,5*2 = 620mm

-
-

It's a "A" lens. Some distortion indeed but it's sharp. A good lens for me for landscape and urban pics as I don't like long focus.

-

A pic of the lens

-

Handling is easy even the lens is slightly heavy. Lens is sharp, very well built, front lens is impressive. I have it since three days.

Sorry

A sample of my new equipment.

After three kit zooms (18-55) I got a Sigma 17-70 f2,8-4,5. I'm very satisfied with it althought kit lens is good. With the Sigma the range gives more possibilities at long end. It needs to be closed at f5,6/8. Look at :
All pics are taken with the Sigma 17-70

-

In my opinion normal and long lenses are better than wide angles except a few number of them. Some zooms are excellent like the 75-150 very sharp with a good contrast.

Don't buy any new flash ! If you have a modern Nikon flash you can use it on Pentax camera with the sensor of the flash. Camera is set in manaul mode.
Look at my page. I give some info about this combo and I list most of the Nikon flash working on Pentax DSLR.

Samyang 14mm is a good alternative less expensive than the Sigma 10-20.

Upgrading
in Pentax
Posted

It's Pentax solitude. We are original peoples with our Pentax. When I walk in Paris to take pictures few have this camera. Not common, like a beautiful woman. A prefer a bit of originality in front of Canon, Nikon, Canon, Sony, Nikon, Olympus (not Olympus, very scarce! ), Canon, Nikon..........
A joke: paste on your camera a black piece of cardboard where you write TOPCON or MIRANDA. Very amazing !
K5 is a very very good camera even in comparaison with K20D.
