If you are on "budget" take an old but good 28-105. Il you have money take a Tamron 24-70.

Mine is an old lens of F4S gear. I forgot it on a shelve with many other lenses AI and AIS waiting I don't know what. Recently I bought a clean D700. The seller change regularly his camera for a new one. 28-105 is surprisingly a very good lens on D700 while it was only good on F4S. I recommand it.

I'm a new owner of a D 700 Nikon.
What are your settings (A and B) for general purpose in white balance auto ? My lens is a Nikkor 28-105. Thanks

Thanks Wouter, Steve and Dave for your opinions. I keep my K5.
Happy Christmas

I own a Pentax K5 to do all sorts of pictures essentially static, landscape, nature, détails with macro lenses...
Do I upgrade my stuff buying a Nikon D700 to do same work ?
Thanks

You w'll never be disappointed with a K5, even K5 "normal. Fine pictures, better contrast, good low and high lights, a real upgrade from K20D. I have K5, K10D, K20D and I can say that K5 is the best of them. Light camera vs FF.
Here in France a FF Nikon or Canon in second hand is more expensive that a new Pentax.

Except that we need a good 17/70 mm I think in a DA 24mm f2. I plan to buy the Samyang but I spend a miracle from Pentax.

-

IMHO some zooms are prone to give BF/FF except 18/55. Calibration w'll do nothing.

Nikon, I think that no.

You have a "hole" between 20 and 35mm in my opinion. For me it's the range of most of my pictures in travel. During film decades I used three lenses in travel, 24, 35 and 85 mm or one a 28/105 mm. Now with my Pentax I use 16/45 or 17/70 and exceptionally 55/300. Even a 14 mm Samyang and a Pentax A 100 mm.
All my pictures of a trip in Laos were taken with 17/70 mm Sigma.
I plan to buy a 24 mm with an aperture of f2.

It's better than precedent post of japanese food. Less harsh. Very good, more natural as done with light of the sun

My 24mm is a Tokina model with A connections. On film it was very good in all situations, contrast and sharpening. On sensor it's a calamity when there is grass or green forest. If I can mount it on an IST-DS I can't on a K10/20/5 because a protuberence on the rear element of the lens.

What is your camera, Maurizio?
For all kinds of shots I have 18/55 and 16/45 Pentax plus a Sigma 17/70. For more specifical work a Samyang 14mm and a 55/300 Pentax plus old K, M and A lenses.
I think that best complement for 28/70 is 16/45. In fact you have a "hole" which needs to change your lens in most interesting range for you between something like 20/40.
Gear combo 16/45 and K5 is very good and you find this lens for 200€ here in France

Hox to get out the card

Solution:

-

A wooden grip, without battery w'll be light and handy. I'm on a project.

-

For me grip is heavy and slightly useless because battery has a good autonomy about 700 shots. So if you want a grip in spite of that, buy a second hand or a third party. Put lead in it to balance the set with the lens !

Stone is a problem !

Shot taken with 55-300 would be better in my opinion.
