  1. I guess I need to retract the certainty of my statement. My guess is that the "Eyepiece Corrector Vn" was manufactured during the X-series period, and the "Eyepiece Corrector 1000" was manufactured during the Maxxum/Dynix/Alpha period. As above, my "Vn" items do fit the three different generations. I don't know for a fact that the "1000" is backward compatible - but for $10-$20 I would take the chance.

  3. Since you mention Chicago. In Cook County there is a court a level simpler than Small Claims Court called "Pro Se" Court. Plaintiff can't have an attorney, no juries, $50.00 filing fee. Pretty much a "Judge Judy" kind of thing. This would probably be the approach you want.

    It might be worth the $50 - $100 to get him served with papers from Pro Se - might shake him up enough to settle.

    And speaking of Judge Judy - maybe you can get on one of those judge shows - the producers would love it - can you imagine the audience appeal of the young bride cheated by the evil photographer!

  4. Or at least the <a href = "http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sales_taxes_in_the_United_States" >states that have sales tax</a>. They all expect you to pay the <a href = "http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Use_tax"> "use tax"</a>, but not all of them get in your face about it. For the examples I know: Massachusetts and Indiana specifically request this payment on the normal Individual income tax return (Illinois does not)so you can't claim that you weren't aware of the requirement. Massachusetts lets you pay an estimated amount based on your income - but requires you to pay the additional actual amount on "Big Ticket" (over $1000) items.
  5. "Local stores collect tax, which can be up to 8% or more depending on where you live."

    But many states now expect you to pay sales tax for "big ticket" items you buy out of state. In my experience both Massachusetts and Indiana expect you to do this when you file your state income tax. Probably others.

  7. You said it was dust specks - I assume a blast of "canned air" should handle it. If the dust is up in the prism you may just have to give up.

    The screen itself is just a piece of plastic with fresnel engravings - if it is really gunky for some reason you can use lens cleaner fluid - or clear flowing water, for that matter - just make sure it doesn't dry with any water marks. Dry it with the "canned air" - don't risk scratches by rubbing with any cloth or paper.

  8. Get a cheap plastic dental mirror and cleaning probe in the dental care section of your favorite general merchant.

    Remove the lens in the normal manner.

    Face into the front opening of the camera. Use the dental mirror to look up at the focusing screen. Towards the front of the camera you will see a little metal clip. Hook this clip with the cleaning probe and pull towards yourself. The screen should drop down at the front and pivot at the rear.

    Carefully note the position of the screen (is prism towards the view finder or towards the mirror?) so you can reinstall correctly - if screen is inside-out then the focus will be off.

    Be very careful - the tool is sharp and there are two things that can be scratched easily (the mirror and the screen).

    Remember I am not a lawyer - seek competent advice before you do anything.

  9. I guess it is like an NBA championship basketball game. The whole thing gets decided in the last 30 seconds (of game clock - so about 3 hours real time :)

    My apologies to those who get deeply annoyed at the idea of sniping - but from my first experience with the auctions I immediately realized that last second bidding was the most advantageous tactic. In fact, now I get annoyed when people have early bidding wars - it just drives the price out of the bargain range.

  10. Maybe if the photog used invisible, ultraviolet colored ink to draw little moustaches and beards on the wedding pix. Then the copy industry agrees (or is forced) to use ultraviolet sensitive sensors that then shows up on the copies :)

    Oh well - copyright was easier in the old days when it cost more to copy a book than to just buy the book. Then your only competitors were your - competitors. Now you have to treat your potential customers as potential criminals - not a good recipe.

  11. Jason, I am confused as to how sniping is to blame for the "road rage" betting frenzies. When I snipe I place my "best offer" bid into my sniping software and it places that bid when there are 10 seconds left. I never have time for a second bid. I never get out bid by a dollar and go back to up my bid. If I win it is because - why? - I bid more than any body else. Sniping may not be good for sellers - but it encourages discipline in bidding and results in better values for the buyers.
  12. Scott, I applaud your honesty - but I have several questions.

    1. Is your business legally liable for the violations your patrons might commit - or are you shielded in the way the phone company or ISPs are not liable for the use of their networks for illegal activity by users?

    2. If not, then why are you playing cop? I suppose women copying wedding pix are pretty meek, but what if some guy gets bent out of shape and pops you in the nose (or worse)?

    3. Seems to me that the whole point of this sort of machine is to make illicit copies. Like someone being shocked (shocked, I tell you) that a DVD to DVD copy machine is being used to copy commercial DVDs. In the digital age I can't imagine anyone who wants legitimate copies of a photo can't freely get the image file.

  13. A lot of parishes have tried to have joint La Quinceanera (maybe if you use this spelling you will get more hits) since separate private Masses for each family gets to be a scheduling problem with the reduced number of priests these days. So the event becomes more of a cotillion.

    <p>

    That's all I know - I was at a parish with a significant Mexican community but I didn't pay attention to that part of it except to note the tension around this development.

    <p>

    But of course there is a magazine that covers it all - <a href =

    "http://www.quincegirl.com/TRADITIONS/Mass/In_Thanksgiving/" > Quince Girl </a>!

  14. I am not sure but I think it is leather - certainly a good quality leatherette. I have cleaned it with the isopropanol with no ill effect.

    When I have acquired a camera with the leather worn and dried out I have touched it up with the shoe creme - just a bit at a time on the Q-tip. Then a buffing with a soft cloth. I use a navy blue shoe creme since that what was in the closet.
