Why should an optical design company make their own glass? It is so much more sensible to have an existing glass maker make a special order glass for them if there is such a need. All major glassmakers make custom glasses.
Oh, and Zeiss is special case in "doesn't make its own glass" because Zeiss and Schott are owned and controlled by the same entity - Carl-Zeiss-Stiftung. It would be totaly ridiculous if Zeiss started making their own glass.

Hi!
Firstly- is the Cokin Z-Pro the same as Lee / 4x4 / 100mm filter
systems? Secondly - Cokin P has filter size of 84mm, so I'm assuming
it would vignette with ultra wide angle lens (20mm ? 18mm? ) as well
as on more moderate lens with a wide front diameter (77mm / 82mm
filter thread). Or is the second one more of a bogeyman ? Thirdly -
how do graduated filters, especially soft edge ones, work out in the
larger holders when used on small filter thread lens, like 52mm? Or
should I get a P series holder and a Z-Pro series to P adapter for those?
While the 100mm filters do cost extra (though its not as if 82mm
circulars are cheap) I would much prefer to just get one size and
never ever again be faced with a dilemma of not having either the
filter or the lens for a shot...
I'm not really interested in hearing anything on resin vs glass really....

Isn't a serious consideration for Nikon on including (or notincluding) AI/AIS metering on a camera going to be whetever people owning these are likely to buy new Nikon AI/AIS lens ? Somebody buying a d70 isn't - or rather 99.x% of them aren't.

You can get very good and professional service in say Conn's Cameras (http://www.connscameras.ie/) which is just a small distance off Grafton street in Dublin. Extermely friendly and professional place and also has a good selection on film and equipment.
Mind, Ireland is not exactly a cheap country in Europe.

Ilka, I don't think those people would by an extra, dedicated flash unit if the bodies didn't come with one - either they would not buy Nikon or they would shoot without flash and get worse results and blame Nikon. After all, the much less expensive non-SLRs they could have bought instead have working flashes so why couldn't it have been included...

I'm quite definitely stil at the phase where i'll quite certainly take at least slightly better photos in a couple of months time. So losing sme would not really be a major loss. I'm trying to find localy available developers that are in stock among which I can choose for experimentation. As Ilford is listed but always out of stock, it basicly leaves either Tetnal or Tetnal and Forte as choices.
-
hi!
anybody used the forte negafort developer? esp. with non-forte films?
-
Just simply looking at the product list in say calumetphoto immediately tells you that the 4"x5" and 9x12 have to be different formats. However, I'm not sure if the comment about film type availability in 9x12 is correct, as all Fuji, Kodak and Ilford sheetfilms are all also made in 9x12 (and also 13x18 for that matter). But go for whatever is available easily locally as that is by far more important than other concerns.

I have seen claims it can meter with AI-S lens - can it aslo meter with plain AI lens? Just in case anybody happens to know...
-
It is fairly easily available at the very least in continental Europe, less so elsewhere. Besides film, Agfa also makes / made E6 development kits with kick-ass pricing.
-
Its interesting that they prefer the liquidation to the Photo Me offer - whatever it contained - for the film and paper business. Sad really aswell, it looked like a way to have the film and paper production continue, even if in a reduced manner.
-
Umm.. where does one get to read more about the Agfa 100 speed films being cancelled? Or is it just a stupid rumour?
-
http://www.fotocommunity.de/pc/pc/cat/1060/display/789249
seems to be an instance of the same film used (with a quirky camera, no tripod and long exposure).
But it is most probably a "supermarket brand" print film.

Having gone through a lot of negatives this week - basicly taking them
out of the stuff they came back in from processing and putting them
into brand new negative sleeves and a then into storage - I noticed
quite a lot of colour differences. Especially Fuji NPH seems to be a
lot redder and darker than Superia and some superias are much more
yellow than orange... Is this normal? How much will it affect
scaninning and long term storage? Is it related to film contrast?

<p>Isn't it odd how people look at one newsbite, for an opinion and then get stuck? There is a steady stream of information about the Agfaphoto bankrupticy and progress towards normalcy. The issue of being able to make payroll for workers was already solved by the time most English news outles got around to publishing the news :(</p>
<p>Googling for agfaphoto site:wdr.de or agfaphoto and Andreas Ringstmeier (and using google translate for those who don't know enough Gemrna) are some ways to keep up to date I suppose, but there is a whole bunch of others. </p>
<p>See say <a href="http://www.wdr.de/themen/wirtschaft/wirtschaftsbranche/agfa/050601.jhtml">http://www.wdr.de/themen/wirtschaft/wirtschaftsbranche/agfa/050601.jhtml</a>
for a slightly more complete and up to date picture. Do follow the links. </p>

Maybe Kodak should do what Agfa did and spin off its chemicals & paper & film buiness like Agfa did?
-
I had a similar situation last summer in Dublin and I've heard of similar experiences elsewhere - I guess the general situation is that either not enough Astia is made or not enough of it gets imported into the EU so there are occasional incidents of it being out of stock or backordered...
-
I think one interesting trend in Nikon lens announcements has been that they have all been AF-S lens. Could it be that say in 10 years low end Nikon bodies will only work with AF-S lens as the last parts of mecahnical coupling have been removed?
-
Velvia 100F is also going? Ouch, thats sad news :( I like its colour rendition a lot more than that of "regular" Velvia.
-
This is basicly a "please help me choose" type of question - the
parameters are approximately:
* have f65 but am certainly looking at getting a f80 in the next ~
9 months
* am sticking with film fotography for far longer than that so
features for digital cameras aren't really important
* weight is a concern but not a big one
* i'm a beginner so wide-lens adaptors and diffusion domes etc are
not that much of a priority
So what should I get? Sb-23? Sb28? Sb-50dx? something else?
-
Something I really don't understand - if the body takes great pictures, why care if its resale price has dropped 2/3/4/5/6-fold or for that matter increassed?
-
hi!
Has anybody used rechargable CR2 lithium-io batteries in their F65?
Good bad experiences? are they (at least) generaly safe? Do they drain
much faster when using the flash compared to ordinary lithium CR2-s?
-
fuji quaterly results should be announced on friday, btw and nikon results are due out on 10th of august. We'll see how film and related sales fared...
-
yes - forget the suggestions for "better" camera and just get more / better lens. Lens you might consider:
* 50mm f/1.8
* 24mm f/2.8
* 35mm f/2
these are all very good, fast extreme quality primes.
oh, and beware exposure comp. advice - at least on my f65, +1 exp comp doubles the exposure time (from eg 1/2 second to 1 second) so it overexposes and going in the - direction underexposes.
Filters for SB-50 DX
in Nikon
Posted
Hi!
Where / how does one get filters for SB-50 DX ? There seem to be just
the stofen coloured diffusers (in gold and green) around, but not much
else. Can the SJ-1 kit be used with SB-50 DX? How would one mount
these and other filters on a flash anyways?
