  1. If your hard up for money, you have to prioritize. What do you really want- a good wide angle or telephoto. And what focal length? If you had an N70 or 90 or 100 instead of a n80 I would recommend buying a manuel focus telephoto prime, (especially good deals on non-ai, although ai conversion can be expensive, and the nikon 1.6 af teleconverter. But, there are problems with that, the teleconverter doesn't sweep the entire focus range (it doesn't use the focus ring from the lens to focus - otherwise it certainly woudn't work with dampened manuel focus lenses). I digress. Stay away from zooms if you are cheap. Sell your N80 and buy a camera that can take mf nikons, then go buy a 135 2.8 if you want sharp, cheap telephoto. Or can n80s be converted to meter with mf nikkor glass? The nikon E 100mm 2.8 is suppose to be quite good aswell. And cheap!
  2. I just got a role back of Fuji 100 that I accidentally shot at 400,

and had pushed 2 stops. Not suprisingly, the contrast makes almost

all of the shots unusable. My question, would similarly overexposing

and then pulling colour negative film (I'm thinking of rating 400 at

100, or rating 200 at 50) for very low contrast results, very

condusive to bright light shooting? Does anyone have experience with

this? I use a pro lab which does not charge extra for pushing and

    pulling, and uses dip-dunk machines.

  3. I finally recieved the lens in the mail today. It will not mount on my F90x without pushing on the apature indexing resistor prong. However - it does mount without interference (at all!) to my girlfriend's F70. (My anniversary present to her, arn't I nice). Since it won't mount on my F90, I'm taking it to Camtex Camera's tommorow to have it converted. So, this is the end of the chapter. Thanks everyone for their help.
  4. The 10.5 should work very well on your D70, but not so well at all on a full frame camera. Another, cheaper option for wide angle on the D70 is the Zenitar 16mm fisheye. They can be had on ebay for easily less than 150US, and it will give you about 22mm on your D70. All the reviews I've seen rate it as quite sharp considering it's origin and price. I'm considering buying one myself for my film camera.
  5. I doubht the F100's silent mode is that quiet, because the F5's silent mode runs at 1fps, and so does the F6's. I'm very curious about how quiet these silent modes really are. Seems like a great feature for quiet event photography. My F90 is so loud!
  6. Thanks Charles, I will try carefully. This escapade has helped me learn alot more about AI lenses! I'm considering converting it to AI myself. I've found a few sites with diagrams showing how to grind the apature ring. It doesn't seem to dangourous, because if I really fuck up I can just purchase an AI apature ring for the lens (hey - they are still made today!). I'm in the Vancouver area.
  7. I'll offer it for my cost after converting to Canadian dollars and shipping, which came to about 60 Canadian. I think that would make it low 40's U.S., plus shipping. I'll sell it for 60 Canadian. I feel wrong giving it up, the glass is perfect, and aside from some dents its in perfect shape (focus smooth, apature snappy). Seems like it should be worth more than 60$Can. We'll, I suppose it would be if it would meter on my (or any other) modern amateur body.
  8. I believe that all modern autofocus lenses, nikon brand or off, are fully compatible with matrix metering. Sigma's site says that it is D compatible. Is it possible that your mistaking "DL" for "SLD", which denotes a "speacial low dispersion glass element". Looks like a great zoom range for cheap, and considering the poor optical ratings of the nikkor 24-120 "streetsweeper", maybe going sigma for a lens like this isn't a bad idea.
  9. I've just aquired a 135 2.8 mf nikkor on ebay for a real steal (30$).

However, I realized after purchasing it that while it is not a Q

lens, it is not AI, but a late pre AI version. Does this mean it

will cause damage mounting on my F90x? I assume it means the meter

will not work. What kind of damage may/will occur if I try to mount

it? I suppose I could have it AI'd but at the cost I might aswell

resell this and buy an AI version of the lens. Anyone want to buy a

    135 2.8 non AI?

  10. Can the TC-16A teleconverter be used with normal, non afs autofocus

lenses? Like my 50 1.4 AF? I can only find that it is compatible with

AIS lenses, but to my knowledge regular AF lenses are AIS lenses. If

so, does anyone know if preserves the matrix metering function, or

does it revert to centre weighted metering. Thanks in advance.

  11. Thanks very much Mike. I need a split screen to turn my F90x into a real manuel focus camera because the focus assist lights (which are of dubious accuracy anyway, although, focusing on a split screen is not neccesarilly accurate either, it must be callibrated) on my F90x do not work with manuel focus lenses attacted. So, even in the middle of the day I am really in teh dark focussing manuel lenses. I think I will buy this screen, because my alternative really is to pick up a manuel focus nikon body. Thanks very much.
  12. I've recently purchased a nikon F90x (an upgrade on my F70) and I

plan on aquiring a new view screen. I've found available a grid

screen. What I really want is a manuel focus screen, with a split

prism in the middle, preferably with grid lines too. Would it be

possible to adapt a screen from an FE or some other manuel focus

nikon to fit my F90? (Or my F70) If not, are there any auto focus

nikon's that can be fitted with a split prism screen? Perhaps the F4

    or F3AF? Thankyou.
