what film did i use? really glad you asked that, a CMOS sensor developed in Photoshop CS2
-
Dublin band, Play, on the beach this morning. anything good or bad to
say about it?
-
the singer of english band editors, singing a song in a tiny hot, dark
music club in dublin
-
this is tom singing a song

really good but a few small critiques. i always prefer singer shots where their mouths are open, using digital you can shoot the same scene for a second or two and generally always get a shot with a slightly better (imho) facial expression.
also, i'd tweak upwards, the red curve, just to give the background a bit more punch and add a few more highlights to the back of his hair
-
use a 20D and a 350d, the 20D will have a tele on it, the 350d either a 50mmf1.4 or my 10-22

the front row of the crowd at a recent metal gig. I think the presence
of the security guy makes the picture. Any thoughts?

this is the kind of black and white shot that shows how much more effective it can be in certain types of shots than colour. brilliant concert photography!

English band, Editors, live on stage in Dublin in front of 8000 fans

i'd have loved if he'd been looking upwards but aside from that, almost a perfectly shot photo. was it a really low stage as it's a really unique angle for a concert shot?
-
a brilliant concert photo. you know how to capture the magic of live music
-
i love the pose, the expression, the lighting on the back of the hair. only negative is the rather harsh fill in flash on his hand and on the body of the guitar
-
a great shot only let down slightly by the foot being slightly cropped, the slightly bland daylight and the adverts in the bottom left.
you've some fantastic shots on your website, look forward to seeing some of the best shots uploaded here.

if jake had been been faced towards the camera, this would be a virtually perfect concert picture.
that one aspect is the only negative i can see. a shot i'd have loved to have had in my music portfolio
-
a great documentary photograph that captures the evening light really well. I'd love Anthony to be turned slightly more towards the camera or not be in as much shadow. Certainly it's a print that Chillis fans will love
-
brilliant shot, perfectly composed, brilliant lighting and fantastic sharpness all over. would love have this in my portfolio of music shots
-
it's good but cutting off the top of the guitar and including the monitor at the bottom are the slight negatives with the composition. the pose and expression are great. i've done a few tweaks with the colour which i'd probably do to combat the pretty flat daylight lighting
-
not much point telling him about ways to manipulate in Photoshop, he's one of those old fashioned 'film' shooters
as for the picture, i do like it but not as much as many others of yours. the monitor in the bottom right is very large in the picture and makes it just a little too cluttered for my tastes. for the music that wilco perform, cluttered is a very good thing so maybe it's good if you know the band
-
i see the attempt to show the movement but the colour palette here isn't that pleasing to the eye and the blur looks messy and more like a mistaken double exposure rather than a deliberate blur effect
-
lighting isn't interesting enough to make this stand out for me.the white item in the background is very distracting in my opinion
-
nice idea but image looks pretty soft or like it's a small crop from a much larger image?
-
i'm in photo pits several times per week, every week in small to huge venues and i very rarely see anybody shooting film any more. it's good to see there's still some willing to stick with it
-
brilliant shot, almost perfect lighting

the lighting is a little flat, but the hair back highlights work really well. i've only shot sonic youth the once but they were great on stage performers. This does work but it's not hugely original. I always end up with shots like this when the performer comes to the edge of the stage and I've only got the 70-200 lens on.
but in saying that it's a great shot and really captures his on stage persona with the hair over the eyes and his rock star attitude
