this conversation is very good, although it did not make up my mind.
A second D100 would not be the worst thing in the world, although I am telling my self to move up a camera-if I can get a used D1X for the price of a new D100. Canon's top DSLR I think is 8mp, what is Nikon doing?
-
I use a mac laptop computer with a firewire cardreader. Its quik, you don't use the camera battery power, and it stores 30gigs

I bought a D100 with the thought of waiting for the D2X to come out,
buying that and having the D100 as backup. But who knows when the new
Nikon will come and I need the backup camera, so I am considering
buying a used D1X. What should I
watch for in buying a used D1X with not a lot of heavy use-or so I am
told.
With speed not being neccasary, would you consider the D1X a better
camera than the D2H. It does scare me that the D1X technology is a
little old, should it?
thanks

I photograph a lot of people on location, mostly corporate, mostly digital. I just got a job photographing 500 portraits for a health system-I don't feel right going into it with one body. The D100 has been a fine camera-the one thing I miss is the fire wire capability. It would be nice to down load photos directly to my computer, I currently shoot digital polaroids(I down low res photos for the art director to view, then I disconnect dial to a higher res and shoot to the flash card). For film I shot with F100's.-which I love and have not used in the last year. I also have a backup N90s which I am selling.

I currently own a D100 and looking to buy another DSLR camera. I
would use my D100 as a backup and the new camera as my main body. I
thought about the Kodak(heard bad reviews),the Fuji S3(do not like the
feel and handling of the S2 at all), the Nikon D2H(does it matter it
is a lower megapixel) the Nikon D1x( lower megapixel, although I do
like the feel of this camera).
Also, is it trouble buying one of these cameras used????
thanks

I quote on the job, (with 80.00per hour in mind) so if I think it is a 2 hour job I will quote 160.00.

dido on the Lexar fire wire reader, 13 minutes to transfer a USB 1.0 and just 3 1/2 minutes on the fire wire reader.

Taku, Both lenses are great, and I am selling both of these lenses-they are the AF lens, not a D lens. If you are interested you can e-mail me at david@debalkophoto.com

Does any one know of a workshop for professional photographers which
goes over the finer points of shooting raw, tranfering, manipulating.
(photoshop). I live in the Philadelphia area.
-
I thought they shared the same sensor too, but somebody else told me they did not. We shot the same outdoor object with the same lens, and the same settings-The S2's color was slightly warmer.
-
I am very happy with my D100, I have had several photos on Transit Bus shelters(blown up to about 3x5feet) and I recently had 2 photos on a billboard(headshots of doctors measuring about 12 by 8 feet). They are viewed from a distance but they look just as good as billboards I shot with 2 1/4.
A Friend(owns a fuji S2) and I recently ran a bunch of tests comparing the S2 to the D100, pixel structure was about the same-color was different, but it was hard to say what was better.

one advantage to a external pc connector-if the pc connection ever gets messed up-bent, throw it out buy a new one

I own a D100, and just purchased a grip, it is so nice for verticles.
-
One thing I for got to ask-the rubber on the grip is coming up in the corner-what kind of glue will work to keep the rubber down? Thanks ahead for your help.
-
I just purchased the grip for the D100, and I love it, the camera is
so much more balanced when shooting verticles. The camera should have
came with the grip built onto it.

I have tethered the D100 & the mac but the transfer is too slow for raw files. I have looked at a D1x which I think has a fire wire cable.
But in the mean time I hook the lap top to the D100 shoot basic j-pegs as polaroids-they come up on the screen fast, when everything is set I unhook the camera and shoot raw files to the flash card.

Chip, I am a little touchy about Nikon being outperformed by Canon.
If it was easier to switch camps I might come over to your side.
-
chip, I am suprised your answer was not followed by na na na na na! maybe next time.

What do I need to have my Mac G4 Ibook and my Nikon D-100 linked, so
that as I photograph, the photographs come up on the computer so that
someone else could view them? And would this also transfer them to the
HD of the computer?
-
I have the 28-70 2.8 and it is a great lens, the silent wave focusing is very nice,
-
steve-nice photo with any camera.
-
Motor Drive for speed, sure, but for me it is nice because you do not have to remove your eye from the viewfinder to advance the camera.
-
As far as I know you have that cropping factor with all the lenses,
they are producing wider lenses to compensate for this loss of wide angle.
D100 or newer????
