Remarkable, but even after I realized that the original post was wrong I still though the image was off by 180 deg. You're right, the above should be rotated 90 degrees counterclockwise which leads to a perfectly good picture of an arch shot from below and the waterpockets all in the right places. I just tried converting to B&W, to me the B&W is too flat, but I'm not very good at B&W conversions.

    Thanks for the comment.

  1. I agree there is too much magenta in the rock, at least compared to the seasons/time of day when I've been there. I once shot a gray card in Lower Antelope though and based on it the actual rock is a redish brown, it is only the light which brings out the beautiful blues, purples, and oranges.

I screwed up, I printed the photo and realized that it was upside down, which explains why the light was under the arch! Good photo either way, but I like it better the way I posted it so I'm leaving it unchanged.
  2. Thank you Lou Ann, this is my favorite too, its easy to take good photos in the Utah desert (although I still only get a few keepers each trip). My favorite photo of yours is Bove Island 6, the colors are superb, and I love the lighting on the mountain and far lake.

Thanks for the info. I've driven 12 several times, it is perhaps the most scenic road in America, and didn't notice this formation. Is it East or West of Escalante? Thanks again.

I'm no weatherman so take the following with a large grain of salt. The cloud may be an altocumulus lenticularus. They are usually lens shaped like the one on the right. I suspect the cloud was formed by the air passing over Clouds rest. The cloud is almost irridescent. Nice photo.

Great colors in the sky, and you captured them all without blowing out the highlights. I would crop out some of the beach. Image is very noisy and it looks like there blemishes, either the lens/sensor was dirty or the scanner.

Yes its definitely over saturated on my monitor. Where exactly was this taken in South Utah, the Chinle formation is quite pretty and I'd like to see it for myself, I'm going to the Kanab/Page area in a few weeks..

I have no idea why this young mountain goat decided to jump up on a

rock twice its height, maybe it was playing. Of course the shot a

split second later would have been much better, but I missed it. The

haze in the background is from the Summer 2003 Glacier Park fires,

which were burning only a mile away. Thanks for your ratings and

    comments.

Thanks for the comment. I did use an enhancing filter when I took this so I felt the colors would be saturated enough already. I'll try some adjustments in Photoshop (Fred Miranda's digital velvia and warming filters) to see if they make any difference. Brightness to me looks okay.
  3. I shot there for almost an hour since it was a day when I was only doing a short hike later. In reviewing the photos I shot two from further back but unfortunately the clouds weren't so nice in either. By the way the hike I did to the 169 procession panel has many good photo ops if you are ever in the Four Corners area. Thanks for the comment.
