  1. Al, do not take the advice given to me, "DO NOT WORRY AS THE STORM WILL MISS OUR AREA TOTALLY". I live in Jacksonville,Fla. and we are right in its path now. Whenever we have a storm or flood watch have learned to do the following, put all my photo equipment in triple ,heavy duty, extra large plastic garbage bags and seal the tops with tightly with "DUCT TAPE". It does help ease the mind and save the equipment.

Hope all turns out O'K for you.

  2. Hi Gary --- Wife and I love this area and best of all the people will go out of their way to help find the best places and coves to photograph off the beaten path. Just ask anyone you see on the road. Some even gave us fruits from their orchards to take with us as we went to these little treasure hidden spots. Enjoy!
  3. Andy --- If I knew the correct answer to give to this good question I would shout out the answer "BUT" I don't. My feeling is one can learn more with slides as you get exactly what you composed and pre-evaluated setting wise. From that point on its what you do with the result viewing. I have always reviewed mine based on --- good - better -and best. Throw out the good and better. Wait another day and then review the best and learn from them. This also solves the storage problem. Aren't you glad you asked !!!
  4. I would like to make a 6 volt light beam tripper to use in my chase

of photographing small insects and lizards scampering along twigs and

small branches.Must be able to dial beam diameter down to at least

1/16" or less to 1/4". Has anyone knowledge of how to make this and

could help me in making one. Does not have to be fancy. Any help

    would be great.

  5. Very interesting discussion and points of view (which there always will be)both being correct at times. Very important point omitted is age of person doing the photo. I for example MUST use auto- focus as I am not as finger nimble today as I was last year. Bird flight shots would be out of the question manually for me.True in order to get my photos published I have many many throw-aways,but that is the nature of the beast. Whatever it takes to get the photo is the correct way.
  6. I suggest you read John Shaws books on nature photography and the use of flash and making a bracket to hold flash. It is extremly rare for me to use a tripod in the field when chasing insects, reptiles, etc:.Your full flash mode goes off at approx. 1000th of a second. This speed will negate any camera shake even at f/22 and hand held. Robert Newton makes flash brackets that allow you to swing the flash from horizontal to vertical when rotating camera body.
