I recently bought a 5D Mk11 and only use Nikkor and some m42, plus medium format lenses with it. I am enjoying my camera and lenses very much. It is only a waste of time if you would rather be doing something else!

Here in Hong Kong, which is now a part of China, "cult" has a negative connotation - think Falun Gong!

I was a Nikon film and digital photographer for thirty years. My digital cameras were D1, D1h and D1X, lastly the D2Xs. I really missed shooting full-frame , and was all set to buy a D700 until I bought a wooden tripod from a photographer, two months ago, who was shooting with a Canon 5D Mk11. Then I bought one for myself too. Love the quietness of the Canon shutter, and that it can also meter with all my old Nikkor lenses.

Sorry Nikon, there is a new love in my life, but thanks for the memories. LOL

Thanks Raid, That was what I wanted to know. Love fotos 2 & 3, nice clouds too. Have you never used B&W film by the sea?

It looks like there are sand dunes behind the actual beach, is this so Raid? How far back does the sand environment go, from the tide line?

Which lens - film combination do you think shows off the texture of the sand grains and patterns best? Thanks.

So, what you are really trying to tell us is that, you don't know how to make a curry dinner!

A Nikon 35mm f 1.8, and a water resistant/proof P&S (see dpreviews waterproof camera test). A half dozen roll-on mosquito repellent. Also, a small daypack that you can keep bottled water stored outside. Umbrellas.

Yes, I do Nas. That's why I recommended them.

Rizwan,

I have no doubt that the forum can offer you some good advice, if only you can tell us how afraid you are of monkeys.

I think you should keep in mind that English is not their first language. I found the Canon staff to be helpful and courteous when I went to buy an eyepiece diopter for a recently purchased 5DMkII. I spoke to them in English, and theirs was acceptable.
Otherwise, most serious camera users living here would keep their equipment in an "electronic dry box", an hermetically- sealed, humidity controlled cabinet. I have four of them, costing a total of US $500. Try the 'Everone' brand, made in Taiwan.
As for lens cleaning you might try the Camera Service Center in Champagne Arcade, Kimberley Rd, TST. Tel no. 23663002. Please do not yell at them, though.

Most useless feature on a camera: The dial on the Pentax Spotmatic that you can set to "Empty", just to remind you to load film in before using it!
Most useless accessory: The Nikon Pistol Grip. It looked cool as hell in their brochures, usually mounted to a 50-300 zoom, but you needed three hands to operate such a setup, in the days before auto- everything.

Today I bought new, a Pentax K to Leica L39 adapter, together with an L39 to Leica M adapter. I am now able to mount my Pentax 20mm f2.8 A* lens to my M6. It has the focusing helicoid but I shouldn't need to use that feature often. I think it makes very good sense as I do not have the money to purchase a 20mm Leica M lens!

Kelly, you are some kind of wizard!

Excellent site there Kevin. I am off to Goa, India on Saturday for several months. Will be bringing the Mamiya C220 with the 80mm f2.8 lens. Already have a Mamiya 645 stashed there in a friends house waiting for me.

Thanks all for the advice.

Thank you too Fred. Ah, what to do! Maybe just leave it as is, eh?

Thank you for the clarification Guido. I was taking your post at it's most simple meaning..a need to satisfy a want or desire. Perhaps your question could have been phrased...How can a $2000 alternative to the original possibly {be logical}?

Thanks Alan, that sounds good.

Hello All,
My question is this... Is the bellows of the Mamiya TLR series made of leather or some other material. What could be used to treat it to make it more supple and less likely to crack with age and use.

I have a tin of Liquid Nikwax, an English product used to soften leather, which I want to apply on my Mamiya C220 and C330 bellows. Anyone else tried this?

For photographing binge drinking the Nikonos IV-a is the ticket! It is waterproof.

-

Guido, How do you define 'making sense'? Most people here just buy what they want and can afford.

-

Arthur, It's listed at $4,495... Why don't you buy one, then provide some "real world' sample images for us?

99 posts and no sign of Shun. He must be really busy or something!

D1, D1h, D1X and D2Xs. All bought used. Am off to buy some new aftermarket batteries this afternoon for the D1X, in preparation for a two month trip to India.

Can you even imagine how many cigarettes and how much sake the Nikon lens designers must have consumed, debating just these very same topics?

-

Thank you Lex, for putting this issue into some perspective and context. Common sense indeed!

I believe that the original Nikon F w/ f36motor had this "silent" feature, so would predate the Leica M8's role as originator. I also have a Canon F1n with winder which winds the film and cocks the shutter only after the release of finger pressure.

The HP Designjet 700.
in The Digital Darkroom: Process, Technique & Printing
Posted

I acquired an old HP DesignJet 700 printer today for free.
This is the model: http://www.shopping.com/xPO-Hewlett-Packard-HP-DesignJet-700

It has not been used for several years and will probably require some cleaning, replacement of parts etc. So before I start to refurbish it I would like the opinion of the folks here as to it's output quality for large B&W prints. Is it a suitable machine for producing detailed poster sized prints?

Any advice, opinions and suggestions would be welcome. Thank you all.
