1.
Hi everyone, I have been a Canon Fd user for years, mostly the F1, old and new, but also the T-90 and the Ftb. Well today I bought an AE-1, black body, having purchased two lens a couple of days ago, the 28mm 2.8 s.c and the 50mm 3.5 Macro. Strange how these things just happen! :)
I actually prefer a lighter smaller body these days, and I plan to make good use of it. The camera is not as simple as it looks so I might well be back with a few questions at some time. The first would be, what is the metering pattern, center-weighted? Thanks.

  2.
Hi Mukul,
I live in Hong Kong and have a good photographer friend in Goa, India whom I have shipped stuff to in the past.
Regarding the subject: "Obstacles To Buying Across Countries", I would include both Indian Customs and the Indian Postal Service.
First parcel I sent to my friend was a used vintage Mamiya MF tripod. Received without a problem.
Second parcel sent had a Voigtlander Bessa T, with Russian 50mm 2.8, plus hood, filter, etc. Received without a problem. However, when picking up the parcel he noticed another fellow was there to collect a box of chocolates sent from abroad. The box had been slyly opened, the chocolates consumed, and the wrappers replaced therein!
Third parcel sent to my friend was of a used single man tent, hiking boots and something else I cannot remember now. When my friend went to collect this parcel, the tent material was missing, but the tent poles remained! Boots made it through.
I have alot of sympathy for photographers in India who wish to keep alive the art of shooting film, especially black & white film. It is hardly available, never mind the filters, hoods and all the other accessories which people living elsewhere take for granted.
I wish you luck Mukul, you are a good photographer, and a patient man as well!

  3.
I have 2 Nikonos III's and 2 Nikonos IV-a's, by the way. It feels like no other camera in the hand. Something with similar DNA wrapped around a 16 MP full frame sensor would be very nice indeed. They might even keep the same lens mount!

  4.
Whatever the current state of technology is with under-water capable cameras is today, or will be tomorrow, the Nikonos is a name which deserves to be revived. It needs no introduction, comes with a long and adventurous history and is pleasurable to simply say aloud.
Note that all the UW P&S cameras record only JPEG, which is inexplicable, really. I had a Panasonic TS-2 and enjoyed shooting with it very much, but gave it away for want of a RAW capable camera. If a Nikonos were to be made which shot in RAW, well I have no doubt that it would sell very well. Come on Nikon, wake up!

  5. A similar thing happened to me too Carlos, but the eyepiece frame broke into several small pieces. I had to send it to a

technician for repair. Beware SL users, the body is very well built indeed, but the eyepiece housing is just made of plastic

and will break if you try to force a non- Leica diopter correction lens onto it. It was a quite distressing moment for me,

    when it happened!

  6. Thanks Mukul, looks like experimentation is the order of the day for old rangefinder gear! I shall be in Goa, India end of

January, next year. If there is any accessory you may require do let me know ok. There is a ready supply of aftermarket,

ie. Made in China hoods, for example, here in Hong Kong. Best wishes and looking forward to seeing more of your work

    here.

  7.
Hi Mukul, nice work, as usual. Would you mind posting a picture of the eyepiece correction lens you have custom fitted, as I also have a Canon 7 which needs such an arrangement. Thank you, your photos have inspired me to search for a 100mm 3.5 too.(I have the 135mm but find it a bit tight for RF use). Jerry

  8.
That was a most useful test, comparing the Tokina 11-16 on D7000 to a Nikon 14-24 on D600! The tester was able to get pictures with no visible vignetting while shooting the crop frame Tokina on the full-frame D600. Thanks Mihai.

  9.
I think that Hasselblad need to market something that would immediately call to mind their wonderful cameras of yore. Perhaps an after-shave or cologne to complement the Lunar camera?

They might call it... "Eau de Victor". The bottle would be in the shape of a 500 series camera, with chimney finder for screw on top. Apply a few drops behind the ears and under the chin, and then step bravely into the new photographic world with one's Lunar...

  10.
With a 5d MK11 as my only Canon body, I wanted a back-up/ alternate FF but in a smaller size for travelling. Having built- in GPS and Wi-Fi will be fantastic, well done Canon for being the first to have in body GPS in a SLR. I will wait till the bugs are ironed out and the price drops before I buy one. This edition of Photokina is really turning into something special for FF camera users, both Nikon and Canon.

  11.
I am interested in the NEX - 6, for the following; None of the Nikon DSLR's appeal to me anymore, (switched to Canon 5dmkII) ; can use any of the multitude of lenses I already own, (Nikon primarily) and especially Canon Fd. I have seen an adaptor too for the Nikonos lenses, of which I have all the dual purpose ones...28mm 2.8LW, 35mm 2.5 and the 80 f4. Size...small; and Wi-fi. It cannot replace a DSLR for critical, technical work, but as an all-rounder for travelling I think I'll take it.

  12.
On a related note, both Nikon and Canon were ambushed somewhat by the introduction of the wonderful little Sony NEX cameras. With the appropriate adaptor, these picture taking machines are able to utilise just about any lens in 35mm ever made.

There are many Leica M's and R's, as well as Nikons and Canons gathering dust whilst their owners' are out enjoying their legacy lenses on these little electronic marvels.

This is what Dpreview has to say about the 24MP Sony NEX-7 in particular:

"It's no stretch to say that, at its best, the NEX-7 offers the finest still image quality of any APS-C camera, bar none."

  13.
If Nikon did not release a new DSLR at the upcoming Photokina, I would not be unhappy. There are after all 12 models to choose from now, 8 of them being DX format ones. The question, as it has for the past 12 years, remains: where are the DX primes...wide and tele?
