1. All these Nikon bodies will take the same pictures as they all sport the Nikon F mount and therefore can use the same lenses (but only the F80/N80 features modern autofocus and will meter only with autofocus lenses). So get a versatile body like the F801 or F90s/N90x and put your money in good lenses (primes; f/2.8 zooms). Keep in mind that the more modern the body, the more accurate the internal light meter in difficult lighting and low light.

For portraiture lenses with a large aperture are best, like the 35mm f/2, 50mm f/1.4, 85mm f/1.8, 105mm f/2.5 primes or the Series E 75-150mm f/3.5 and the 80-200mm f/2.8 zooms. There also exists an excellent manual focus Tokina AT-X 60-120mm f/2.8 portrait zoom that has exceptionally smooth bokeh (see example here). Macro lenses do also work well as portrait lenses, but are often a bit slower than regular lenses at their respective focal length.

  2. I sold my wonderful F801 (N8008) an that big internet auction site for less than €30. For this money, I highly recommend the camera over any other Nikon body for photography beginners, especially as the F801 can accurately meter with inexpensive manual focus lenses (unlike the F80/N80).

But the F80 (N80) can probably use more of the most advanced features of the SB-800 (not that this matters too much, IMHO).
