  1. I have a friend who is a lawyer at a very small bankruptcy and family law firm

(her and her boss). We've discussed in the past the possibility of putting a

few photos in the waiting area with a business card holder. They get free

office decor, I get free advertising (albeit at a bankruptcy law firm).

They recently remodeled the space, so they are interested in decorating the

blank walls. The boss mentioned he was concerned about liability, but I told

them we could work something out.

I looked in my Tad Crawford book for an agreement, but didn't find one. Does

anyone have one, or any suggestions for points to cover? I would like to keep

this very simple, but cover the necessary things. I was thinking 1) make them

liable only for theft or negligence, 2) limit their liability to a reasonable

figure per photo and total, 3) indemnify us for reasonable damage to their

walls for hanging purposes, 4) some type of clause giving reasonable notice by

either party to terminate the display (so we can remove the photos, etc).

If anyone has any suggestions, I would appreciate input.

  2. <p>As far as hosting goes, I use <a href="http://www.bluehost.com/track/pynephot/">Bluehost</a> for $6.95/mo including the domain name. Disclaimer: I have nothing to do with the company. I'm just a customer, but I haven't finished building my site yet. If you decide to sign up, please use that link. I get a referral bonus. Thanks.</p>

    Personally, I prefer a well-built HTML page to Flash.</p>

  3. Anybody know what's up with Tamron? I'd like to order a 90mm f/2.8 Di macro

for my Pentax rigs, but both Adorama and B&H have been out of stock for

several weeks. Is there some production problem? I'm leary of ordering from

    anyone else.

  4. I'm trying to calibrate using Radeon X300 with dual monitors using OptixXR. I

have two Viewsonic VA912b monitors connected. I'm pretty sure the X300 only

has one LUT, but how do I tell which output it is applied to? Is it applied

to the DVI, VGA, or both? Or does it depend on what monitor I have set to be

my primary monitor in Windows XP Pro? Please help, I can't figure out what it

    is doing. Thanks.

  5. Let me clarify.

I am NOT the photographer. I'll probably snap some of my own, but as a guest, not an official photographer. I live in Utah, not Atlanta. The wedding is at the LDS (Mormon) temple in Atlanta. My brother asked me about having a large print made in that timeframe because I am a photographer. He thought I might be able to take a photo and have a large print made. I told him it was unlikely, but that I would check into it. I also told him the best thing to do was ask how the other photographer got it done - he may very well have had his own wide-format printer.

Thanks for everyone's comments and suggestions - it was helpful, just like I knew it would be. I will talk to my brother about the situation, and I agree that the photographer shouldn't leave the wedding. I think the idea was to do this at the end. But even then, I think this request is above and beyond, and is a bad idea. I certainly don't want to have to deal with it. I want to relax, not drive all over town. And I would also charge a premium for this.

Thanks again, and I'll let everyone know what happens.

    Mike

  6. I'm not from Atlanta - my brother lives there. I would probably just shoot a bunch of jpgs, pick the best, and print it as is. No time for RAW and photoshop. Ideally, I would just give the info to the photographer and have them worry about it, since I would rather not have the hassle during my brother's wedding. I'm just trying to do some legwork for my brother (which, frankly, their photographer should be doing).
  7. My brother is getting married in Atlanta in February. The bride's mother

wants a large print (16x20 or so) made of a shot from the wedding at 1PM to

show at the reception at 5PM that evening. Their photographer says the best

she could do was an 8x10 in that time frame. Apparently, the bride's mother

was at a wedding where this was done. I told my brother I'd check into it for

    him.

So, anybody know of a decent place in Atlanta that can make a 16x20 print

(from digital) in 4 hours on a Saturday afternoon? I don't care if it is RA-4

or inkjet, just something decent (would rather not go to Kinko's).

    Thanks

    Mike

  8. <p>I've been thinking about adding a Pentax *istDS2 to my collection

of Pentax equipment. I anticipated purchasing it from B&H when I

finally decided. But wandering around my local mega-electronics

store the other day, I noticed they carried the istDL (which I'm

probably not considering).<p>Anyway, I got to talking with the

salesman, and it turns out he has a *istDS and 18-55 kit lens

sitting in the backroom that was ordered and apparently never

sold.<p>So my questions: <ol><li>Am I right in thinking the only

feature difference between the *istDS and *istDS2 is the size of the

LCD screen, or are there other differences?</li><li>is a *istDS + 18-

55 kit lens + 3yr warranty for $600 a good deal, or should I just

stick to the current DS2 model?</li></ol>Thanks in advance for your

    help...

  9. Using one right now, although admittedly, I don't do much imaging on it at work. They are very nice 21" Trinitron monitors and the tubes aren't being made any more. I'd buy one second hand if I could look at it first, make sure it wasn't burned in, and came from somebody who I know took care of it. Especially if the price is right.
  10. Find a good pro lab with a Lambda, Lightjet, or Chromira printer. Take them the best files you have. They will show you what they can produce from these files. I wouldn't do any up-rezzing, let the lab do that if necessary. You can have them print a small region of your file at the large size so you can see how it will look without commiting to a large print.
  11. Try Tad Crawford's book, "Business and Legal Forms for Photographers". I would recommend having a lawyer in your area review your forms as well. When I do something free for someone, I fill out a usual contract with usual prices, and do a 100% discount, so they see what I would usually charge, plus all the legal stuff is all straight.
  12. If you haven't yet used Tech Pan, it's probably pointless to start experimenting with it, since it has been discontinued. I bought 100 feet of it because of this. It is very nice in Technidol when processed properly. Personally, I've just started trying Ilford PanF+ as a possible replacement. In general these days, I'm fond of Tri-X. I've rated it anywhere from 400-3200 and processed in Tmax, Rodinal, and HC110. I'm still experimenting, especially with major pushes. In 100 ISO, I'm fond of Delta100 in DD-X or Ilfotech HC. If I could only use one film right now, it would probably be Tri-X for versatility and likelihood that it will be around for a while.
  13. What Rich has said about it being an investment in creating a brand is right on. Don't think of it as just a logo. I ended up using someone online, and while I'm reasonably happy, if I had to do it over again, I would have spent more money and used a local graphic designer. It was somewhat difficult to convey things via email. Also, I recommend using somebody that can explain how to USE what you design. For instance, a logo needs to maintain color consistency, and my designer wasn't the greatest at conveying "use this in this way for this purpose".
