How did I do this? It is two images, the scene and the moon. The moon was dropped onto the tree and made to appear to be behind the tree by removing the parts of the moon that were "in front" of the tree branches. Simple, no? :)

Well I am glad I confessed that it was a composite image from the start, although some people seemed to have missed that opening comment. A picture like this is not possible in reality. HDR won't even do this--or highly doubtful. There are also conflicts of DOF and relative sizes of the foreground tree etc etc. Also a moon low to the horizon is distorted...this one is round as it was hot higher in the sky. Still the PS fakery worked...

It was a fun image to create from two different images. Funny how such a simple idea can turn into an image that folks really like.

Herkus, I assure you that my moon is at the exact angle as it was taken, i.e. it was not rotated. The majority of moon images I've looked at (Google: Images) are close the position as my moon. I assume there are changes in the appearance of the angle due to seasons and location on earth (~50?N latitude) at which the picture was taken. See here...scroll down..

Good question. See image above. The gannets nest on steep cliffs and soar BELOW. These two images will give you an idea. The gannetry is approach from the topland. Not a place you want to be on a real windy day.

I'd normally toss any picture of a flying bird in which a wing tip

was cut off. I had to make an exception with this one. I like the

greenery blowing back in the breeze.

Simply an amazing place! Cosmic sunshine ... which was lucky since

the reserve sees fog 200 days per year.

Went back thru my eagle images and this one stood out for me...I had

I like it. Tricky exposure and you maintained the "right" colors. (There appears to be no real shadow here--and as that is ice we'd expect a longer shadow at this time of year in the N hemisphere. I assume that's where you got the great exposure. Lacks the harse light of sun on snow.)

I might have cropped it a tad tighter removing the darker band at the top and possibly a smidgeon off the right.

Still, it is a good shot and captures what geese and swans (they ARE swans, eh?) do when it starts to get cold.

Len .. Thanks for your comments. I plan to get back (it's just ten minutes from the house) to the valley tomorrow or the next day. Feedback from others is good. One should not be swayed by others from how they feel about a scene BUT suggestions and other points of view are always helpful. Perspective.

Holy Cow a guy here possibly OLDER than me! Looked at your folders... nice stuff. Winter is fun, but it's been a tad too cold here. Looks like sun and warming and I'll be there!
