  1. hard to say but this is a big camera with a big mirror. if you're not on a tripod or using higher shutter speeds shake is always a danger.

    in the pic you've posted i don't see anything that's critically sharp, so maybe this is the problem. other than that all i can say is i've never had a problem with my rz and my 110mm is plenty sharp.

  2. I'm just wandering why Jenoptik sold it's shares to Leica(!) just before it was announced. And I'ld also love to understand who's making the lenses; Jenoptik (they announced a number of new "digital" lenses and owned Sinar as it was being developed), Zeiss (AF Sinar M lenses?), Leica (who makes lenses and is partnered to Jenoptik with the M8)? <p>
  3. Sinar was bought out by Jenoptik...who also have a partnership with, or own,

    (I'm not sure) Franke & Heidecke (Rollei) and have announced a new MF digital

    camera<a

    href="http://www.sinar.ch/microsite_photokina_20...r_site01_e.html">here</a>.

    The Sinar M, the other MF digital capable camera from Sinar, uses Zeiss AF

    Lenses...who also make lenses for the Rollei 6008 AF...Jenoptik partnered up

    with Leica on the M8...and they (Jenoptik - formerly known as Zeiss Jena) also

    announced new lenses (I can no longer find the link, it seems to be down) for a

    new digital MF Camera which will (is supposed to) be introduced at Photokina by

    Rollei (not Sinar)...i think...which until now have used Zeiss and Schneider

    Lenses. Now Jenoptik have sold their 51% of Sinar <a

    href="http://www.sinar.ch/site/index__gast-e-106...s-rand-912.html">here</a> to

    Leica AG, who up until now have made 35mm cameras and lenses, not MF or Large

    Format Lenses, as far as I know...and wasn't Leica just sold by Hermès

    International SCA to Leica Camera AG?<p>

    So if I understand correctly, Leica Camera AG bought themselves and Sinar AG,

    the wonderful company that brought us the Sinar M, an unbelievable flop, with

    1/60th flash sync and $10,000 Zeiss AF Lenses, who have announced a new digital

    MF cam with their former owner Jenoptik, who announced new (digital) lenses for

    a yet to be announced Rollei camera who have absolutely nothing to do with

    Leica, BUT who are cooperating with Jenoptik who cooperate with Leica (M8) and

    just sold Sinar to Leica. <p>

    Something fishy is going on here...is it possible that

    Jenoptik-Leica-Rollei-Franke & Heidecke-Sinar are about to announce a new comedy

    series on NBC called "Achtung! Ve don't know vat ze hell ve are doing!"?

  4. no, if anything it's biased testing that goes on all the time. remember the "guy" who tirelessly tried to promote the absolute superiority of the dmr over everything on the planet - the only problem in the chain of "testing", if i remember correctly, was that the proof was only able to seen in real prints, not on computer screens. <p>

    reichmann only tests canon and phase one. that's biased even if understandable.<p>

    rockwell only tests nikon, and horribly at that.<p>

    it seems like dpreview is almost alone on any kind of structured, unbiased, objective testing.

  5. Not to mention the Pentax 645d with 18 megs and up coming versions with up to 30 megs. <p>

    New backs from Leaf with faster frame rates. <p>

    The new Sinar-Rollei 645 cam is jenoptic owned and they've announced a number of new lenses already. This is from the announcement: <p>

    Next to the new camera there will be 6 new AF D lenses presented. The high resolution lenses have been conceived for use with the 6000 series camera in combination with digital backs. Franke & Heidecke guarantee high reflex absorption and color brilliance with the multi coated elements, called Special Coating System (SCS).

    <p>

    According to the press release, these are the new lenses: <p>

    S-Flektogon 2,8/35 mm<p>

    Flektogon 2,8/50 mm<p>

    Biometar 2,8/80 mm<p>

    Tele-Biometar 4,0/150 mm<p>

    Tele-Biometar 2,8/150 mm<p>

    Vario-Biometar 4,6/60-140 mm<p>

    According to Franke & Heidecke the new SCS coatings aren't the only thing that makes these new lenses digital ready. The lenses are based on optimized lens formulas, that can handle the high demands of digital photography.

    <p>

    Also interesting, the new lenses carry names that were once used by the original company VEB Carl Zeiss JENA, that changed into Jenoptik AG after Germany united.<p>

    The cooperation seems to be working. There are hints that there will be even more to see: a new high end MF digital camera.<p>

    Pretty serious competition going on - me likey.

  6. when you have your files printed at a lab or over a web lab, they usually offer standard corrections to optimize the pics - just like they do with film. <p>

    if you have photoshop you can create actions and do batch tweaking. it's very simple to do a standard action (curves, saturation, sharpening, size & format) and save them for later use. do one for outdoor, one for indoor with flash, etc. <p>

    you can tweak several hundred pics in a no time and you don't have to sit in front of the computer, it's all automated. <p>

    good luck.

  7. there are so many variables...the lighting, the lenses, the film or sensor, the developing, the scanning, the printing (wet or digital). don't drive yourself crazy comparing digital to traditional, pick the route that best suits you and work on perfecting it - that should keep you busy for the next 10 years.
  8. nx is nice but still very slow. there are a lot of controlls and it's pretty intuitive to use, the results are very good but it's just too slow. just forget about doing batch conversions. i now use raw developer the most because it's much, much faster, also has good controlls and gives me just as good if not slightly better conversions than nx did. it's also less expensive.
  9. <i>"In response to Kipling who said a D70 produced better images than any 35mm. camera,this is wrong period useing a good scanner 100 speed film should give you better quality than the D70 everytime"</i><p>

    Actually I said "...as good as or better...", but I'd be interested in seeing something that proves that 100 asa film is always better, I've never seen it though - and I've been shooting both, side by side for a long time. Different? Yes. As good in some situation? Yes. Better? No.
