I'm so sorry for your sweet cats passing. You honor Kitty by taking this swell picture of her and sharing it with us.

1)No 2) Yes, in rare cases it depends.

Michael, I think the photograph of the lady and the coca-cola sign is absolutely fantastic! And I especially like your portrait section which show a depth and imagination that I can definately learn from. Congratulations on your site and your good work and thankyou.

P.S. I have no problem with the scroll bar at all. In fact, I think your site is one of the easiest to navigate. VDP

I once owned both the Yashica 35 and the Contax 35 and as I recollect, the Yashica 35mm ML 2.8 rendered the image in a cooler fashion while the Contax 2.8 has that warmer, more romantic Zeiss rendering to it. I also think the Contax 35 is sharper than its Yashica cousin.

I still shoot with film and I use prime lenses -- 35 and 50. The cameras i use are the Contax RX and Aria and the Konica Hexar AF. Occasionally I use a Voigtlander Bessa.

Tocad is the name of the company that will repair later editions of the Contax line. I don't think that includes the original RTS, but I'm not entirely sure. I tried them once and found that their work was sloppy.

The Yashica FX3 Super 2000 is about as cheap as you can get. Look on EBay. They are completely manual cameras as the only function of the button cell bateries is to activate the on board meter. The other option might be the Contax 139Q, which is a beautiful camera but very old. None of the C/Y mount Kyocera cameras are in production anymore.

Orville Robertson, The 5th Ave shot is beautiful.
Gil Pruitt, The two mallard drakes shot is wonderful.

I've used the Contax Aria for years and I'm happy to say that it is one of the best cameras ever made. It is light
weight and responds very well to any situation. It doesn't balance so well with larger lenses such as the CZ 35 to
135 vario sonar zoom, but with the 50 1.7 or 45 tessar or the 85 2,8 it is fine, As JYabrow stated it is a dead
system and as the years go by it will be harder to find parts to fix it if needed. If it is a film camera that you want I
would still go for the Aria, that's how good I think it is.

You have some very good work here. It is a very enjoyable site. I was suprised at how many of the people you photographed that I know or recognize. Congratulations.

Generaly Yashica lenses rendered the image in a cooler maner than the Zeiss lenses, which have a warm almost romantic look. I've used both and find I liked the Zeiss better.

Thank you for this. He has some lovely work and with a sense of humor too.

Panorama camera on 30th St. repairs cameras but they also have many old beaters for sale. I don't know the prices since I've gone to them solely for repairs. There is also the flea market on 17th St and 6th Ave. In the corner of the parking lot there is a whole table ful of old cameras. Of course, unless you know what you're looking at, no guarentees come with the purchase.

Aren't cats grand? I'm so sorry for your loss.

I would be hard put to give up my 35-135 CZ zoom since it is such a great lens, even though I hardly use it anymore. For the rest, it depends on the situation. I like the 35 2.8, 25 2.8, 85 2.8, 45 2.8, 50 1.4, 50 1.7, and lastly, but not least, the 28-70.

This is my second attempt at posting a response here. Check out KEH, they may have a 137MA for sale. It might be cheaper than having yours repaired. A couple of years ago I bought a beat up Contax 139Q and it lasted about 1 year before the film advance died. The repair cost over $100.00 and that too lasted about a year. I'm not having it repaired again.

Why not look on the KEH site to see if the have one for sale? It might be cheaper than having yours repaired. A couple of years ago I paid $139.00 for a beat up Contax 139Q. It lasted about a year and then the film advance went. It cost me over $100.00 to have it repaired. That lasted another year and recently the advance went again. I wont be having it repaired again as good a camera as it was.

The Silverstien Gallery on 24th St between 10th & 11th Ave. in Chelsea currently has a wonderful exhibition of some of the great works of W. Eugene Smith. I saw it last weekend and it was terrific.

Your only concern is that someone may mistake you for the Pope and think you should grant him a miracle or give him a blessing. Don't worry about a thing and just enjoy your stay in our fare city.
P.S. Keep your eye on your gear at all times.

When my father passed away in 1989 I was clearing out his apartment. I saw his Contax RTS and his Nikon Fm2. I looked through the lens of the Nikon and thought it was fantastic. My sister took the Nikon so I got the Contax and I have been photographing ever since.

I am. I live with 3 cats. I also like dogs.

Brad 12:59 this shot is mighty fine.

Take nothing. Just go to your nearest 99cent store and purchase 5 or 10 single use cameras. Get the ones with 24 exposures. When you get to your destination take in the ambience and gradually ask yourself "What do I see? What is here?" Then photograph what is there that affects you deeply. I am willing to bet that these pictures are the ones you will cherish for the rest of your life.

That film be continued to be produced and that film processing places continue to exist (at least in Manhattan) for the next 25 years.
