If anyone needs to see more pics, let me know. Does anyone have any experience using the "J and C old fashioned film" The description says: "These films are old-fashioned, high silver content emulsions with a look similar to the old Super XX. Because of its thick emulsion, this film responds well to Pyro developers."

Hello Mike, Thank you for the info on the film, the camera actually came with 15 film holders, some Ica and some Zeiss Ikon, one was stuck when I got it and had to be pryed out with a screwdriver and some still had film in them. I'll post some pics of the camera within a few hours. What about making the frame for the ground glass from one of the holders? Thank you, Peter

Hello, I Just acquired a Zeiss Orix 10x15cm Plate camera; is there
film available in this format, or will I have to cut sheet film to
fit? It came with a 2,5 x 51 Distar that makes for a focal length
of 270mm when attached to the 165mm tessar on the camera ; how much
loss in quality is there going to be when using this? Also, does
anyone know how the ground glass would have originally been mounted
to this camera? The ground glass is missing; would it just slide in
and out like the plate film holders, would it have been attached to
a frame? Thank you, Peter

Maybe you can rturn the Minolta lens and find one cheaper on eBay; it seems as if you can get one for under 900, probably less used. I'm assuming you dont want a slower lens, right? Slower Minolta lenses in that range can usually be bought for under 100 used.

Troy, do you mean the camera or the strange looking (guy?) that is holding it?

BJ, The name of the book is "Photographic Cameras and Accessories: Comprising How to Make Cameras, Dark Slides, Shutters, and Stands"
It was written by Paul N. Hansluck. Heres a link to one I found on eBay; (I'm in no way connected with this auction.)

Thank you all for the information. I couldn't find any ektanars that were long enough, but that is still a good possibility. A used 300/9 or a Nikon WA WF Ektar may be a good choice too, but I think the g-claron is definitely out of my price range. I saw some apo-nikkors in the 420-480mm range, are these any good?

Hello, I have a book about making cameras with instructions on how to make bellows using leather and twill; If you are actually interested in making them yourself I can scan the pages and post them. It doesn't seem too hard to do. Its a reprint of a book written in 1901, but the only thing really outdated is the section on lenses. -Peter

Hello, I am in the process of designing and building an 11x14 view
camera; I already have a 750mm Zeiss Apo-Tessar, but I want to have
a few more lense, that will cover this format that are preferably
lighter than the giant tessar. I doubt I'll make anything but
contact prints so I'm not worried about it being coated or even very
sharp. I know that there are process lenses that I could probably
get cheaply, but I don't know which would be good and how much they
would cost (I think I got lucky with the tessar, but I'm not sure
what the going price for it is - anyone know?). What about wide-
angle lenses? A wide-angle process lens seems kind of unlikely- any
ideas here?

Thank you very much for that information, Steven; and, Alan you were extremely helpful, I really appreciate it. -Peter

Hello, a few lines under this post there is a post about the fujinon swd 65 and nikkor sw 65 lenses; both are 65mm lenses that will cover 4x5.

There is some help that eBay offers in these cases go to:
http://pages.ebay.com/help/confidence/isgw-fraud-protection.html
You can get the sellers contact info and give him a call which usually helps or file a claim with eBay if you don't want to deal with the seller directly. The Square Trade dispute resolution is also a good idea. There is a buyer protection program if you paid through paypal and if you file a claim they will provide reimbursement up to $200.

I got it to work again, but just while its mounted to the camera. Even auto aperture is working ok and the aperture is accurate. It won't change when its off of the camera. It is supposed to do this?

Hello, thank you for the help. I got the element out and cleaned and back together by going through the back of the lens, but I can't get the back part back together. Can anyone direct me to a diagram of the lens online or if you are familiar with this lens tell me how to reassemble it. I got it to stop down correctly while it was mounted on the camera once, but it would stay stopped down to around f/8 when it was off of the camera. -Peter

Hello, does anyone know how to remove the rear element group from
this lens? I can get as far as removing the aperture assembly
through the front, but I cant get to the rear element. Thank you,
Peter

Thank you very much for the information.

Hello, I recently purchased this lens on eBay; I didnt receive it
yet, but I would like to know if anyone has any info or experience
with this lens. I'm guessing it should cover 18x24, but I'm not too
sure on that and I'm not planning on using it for something that
large anyway. The description said it was from a horizontal copy
camera and was used in the aerial photography business. I'm
assuming that it could also be used for regular photographic
purposes with a large enough camera and signifigant bellows draw...
right? Any information would be appreciated.

Hello, could someone please tell about what format this lens should
cover? I'm considering purchasing one as a wide-angle for 4x5, but
I don't know if it will cover 4x5 or was intended for another format.

Thank you for the response. I considered a packard, but they are getting to be quite pricey second-hand these days, and making a similar shutter would probably take a lot less time than finding a relatively cheap one. If I was going to invest any money into it I want to get a shutter with some faster speeds and flash synchronization (I think some packards probably have that though) and all that fancy stuff. I think it would be worth it and if I decided it wasn't some point down the road I could always resell it.

Hello, Is anyone familiar with this lens? It has a top of f/4.5 and
I'm guessing it is about 265mm in focal length. Its mounted on a 6"
x 5 7/8" recessed lens board, that has a hole drilled at one corner
for a shutter of some kind? I haven't shot any film with it yet,
but the image it projects when shining a light through it looks
strangely sharp and I'd like to find a shutter that fits. The
threads measure about 2 3/4" across. If anyone has any info or
knows a shutter that would work I would greatly appreciate a
response.

Hello, I know that there is an adapter that will let you use Minolta MD or MC mount lenses on a Canon FD mount camera. I also think that there may be an adapter that lets you use the FD mount lenses on the Canon DSLR's, but you'd have to look into that. If you mounted the Minolta lens into FD adapter then the adapter and lens into the other adapter you might have a good setup. Although the space between the rear element on any of these cameras might be different, allowing the lens to only focus extremely close-up. Theres a few adapters up on eBay right now that arent too expensive, but I don't see an FD to Canon DSLR one or a MD to FD either. There was an MD to FD up recently though.

oh- its not a retina. That should still work anyway if its a similar shutter; I did that with a Rolleiflex TLR too and it now works perfectly. -Peter
