This is not a "setup" or planned photo, it was strictly spur of the moment. It's not even cropped from the original. The ladder actually could be thought of as an "escape" for the child so I don't see it distracting at all. The background is too dark to tell what is there so thats not distracting, but gives a spooky feel to it.

Nice shot, I agree though the sharpness is off a tad. You don't specify what speed you shot it at. A faster shutter speed ,ay have helped the softness. Check out this shot, at night http://www.photo.net/photodb/photo?photo_id=2281302 no flash was used.
As said above, pre focus (especially with a slow focusing camera such as the Rebel). I use AF but my system (1D) focuses extremly fast. Great strt though for first time!

Found this scene at a friends, she was in trouble and sitting in a
corner, didn't even look up when the flash went off.

Greg Biffle, the driver walked away uninjured. Even more amazing is the fuel cell didn't leak and it was pretty mangled. Greg had set the fast time of practice the prior lap, tried to make it a bit faster but it swapped ends in turn 4. Greg wasn't near as fast in the backup car. The big thing that saved Greg was the S.A.F.E.R. barrier that is placed in each corner, without that I doubt Greg would have walked away.
The front tire on the right side is also off the ground, just hard to tell in this small view, there is a puff of smoke under the wheel. I actually messed this series up, instead of having the camera set to 1000, 400 I bumped the button changing batteries and changed it to 400,400 so it's a bit soft blown up.
Thanks for all the great comments!

Nice catch! I probably would have cropped the wall out a bit though. I know what you mean about borrowed equipment as my camea died a week before the indy 500, fortunately Canon got it fixed race morning!

Interesting view! I knew it was Indy as soon as I saw it, even from this angle.I spent the entire month of May inside turn 4 and will spend three days there this week too.

Curious what anyone thinks about this shot.
-
Just wondering what anyone thought about this shot. The Thunderbirds
during an airshow today.

I think a vertical shot that included the legs would have been better, but thats just me.

almost missed this one, yet somehoe he is completly in the frame. I
thought printing would crop it but found flipping 180 degrees works.
So how about some comments?

I couldn't pass this up, just something about empty beer cans and &
broken crutches and all the possible meanings here.

This is another shot from the triple bus crash in the figure 8 race.
Two buses rolled over (the front yellow one and the white one). The
bus in the rear (left) hit the white bus after the white bus hit the
one rolling over.
A complete Power Point Video can be seen at
http://www.andersonspeedway.com showing the complete series.

These guys will return for "Round 2" on Sun. July 4 - School Bus Figure 8, Figure 8, ThunderCar Figure 8, Front Wheel Drive Figure 8, Fireworks. A couple will have "new" buses though. This Figure 8 Madness, all races are on the 8.
Hmmm, so the Il & Ok drivers are trained in Indiana eh?
-
I hope not Peter, these guys are crazy. Not one of them let up. It was like they were all trying to beat the light. This was only lap #2. They started 13 buses. The other 10 finished with some very close calls, and one nearly loosing his hood.

Hi Tony,
They play soccer in Tn? Just kidding. I'll be in Crossville next week. Good action shot, especially with 400mm and less than perfect lighting.

Three school buses crash in the figure 8 crossover during last
weekends Night Of Thrills. The nearest bus and the white bus both
rolled over, the third bus stayed upright.
This was shot at low resolution, unfortunately I didn't have enough
cards that night so it's grainier than normal.

While taking another shot this occured and I had to turn and shoot
fast to get it. Both drivers walked away.
