  1. Thank you all for the advice. I used the Readymatic fixer and it seems to have been fine. I

did check with a piece of leader and it cleared OK in about 3 minutes, so I fixed for 6

minutes. I developed 3 rolls of film today, one IR750c, which came out normally for me,

one Tmax 400 120mm, which came out badly, not sure where my problem is, this was my

first Holga roll of b&w home developed, could be camera, who knows! And one roll of

Tmax 100 which I had laying around in my darkroom, I dont remember what I had on it,

but there's nothing now! I have no idea what happened there! Aaargh! You know, for

someone who used to work in a chemistry lab, this lack of skill and understanding is

awfully frustrating and fairly humiliating, LMAO! Strangely, I am still hopeful! :)

  2. After many tries and many failures, I tried the push in and twist recommended above and

viola! open :) But not the patterson, this was another reel. Then today, after using the

patterson, I had it soaking in hot water to rinse it, figured maybe it was gunky as also

mentioned above. A few minutes later, it too opened! Yay! Thank you everyone! Now, if

only I could figure out what I am doing wrong otherwise.... ;-P I got 2 frames off this roll!

  3. Hi!

OK, stupid question of the day...

I ran out of fixer. Instead of packing up my 2 year olds and 4 year

old and dragging them through the local photo shop while hoping they

dont break anything and paying vastly inflated prices, can I use my

husbands dental xray fixer from work? It is Kodak Readymatic Dental

Fixer and replenisher, at 14% Ammonium Sulfite and 1-5% Acetic Acid.

Is this a crazy idea? Would I ruin my film? Would I have to fix for

    a longer time?

  4. Rob- I have not formatted them, don't know if I can? or should?

Jim- I use a firewire from the camera to the USB port. When I do this I can see the card is empty, but it says 'no memory space' when I switch it to photo taking mode. The card slot is very deep, I don't know if I could get in there to check for dust. Maybe I'll try blowing in there... I should get some canned air...

    Thanks guys!

  5. Hi

I have a Sony DSC-P5 3.2MP which has been a good enough camera for several years.

Now, I am having problems. I insert an empty memory stick and it tells me there is no

memory space, and this happens with 4 different sticks, one of which is only a few months

old. Is this a camera problem or a memory stick problem? Can I do anything to fix it?

    Thanks!

  6. Hello,

I am a beginner at home developing (well at photog in general!!). I shot a roll of

Konica IR (I don NOT have high hopes for this roll, it's just for fun). I want to develop

it tonite (I am going to B&H in NYC tomorrow) so I can see if I want to persue this. I

only have TMAX at home. I have seen this is far from the best developer for IR, but if I

did do it, what dil and time? Anyone? Please :)

  7. Wow!

Thank you all so much for the responses. I can't wait for my order from B&H to arrive now (I was going to buy the chemicals at the photo shop here, but the sales girl got too b!tchy and I got intimidated, plus they messed up some enlargements for me and I was too irritated to go back in). I will print out this thread and take your advice where I can. I like the idea of the tray (4 acres, lol!), using water and vinegar and other inexpensive alternatives, the bit of leader, and not working in the kitchen (new soapstone counter tops!).

Thank you all very much and I hope to show my results soon.

  8. I just got one of these today. Let me see if I have my info right and

let me know what to do next :)

I need to get my film (b&w only?) onto the reel. In the dark. So can

I load it in a closet at night, then go to the kitchen and add

chemicals? In the light? With the window open for air?

Say I want to try and develop 1 roll of Ilford Delta 3200 (that I am

just goofing with, I have no good reason for having tried this film).

I just pour in some T-Max at 1+4 for 8½ minutes at 68°? Dump it, then

pour in stop for 30 sec, then pour it back into bottle? Then fixer 5

    minutes, back in bottle?

At that point it is light safe, right?

Then do I need hypo clearing agent and Photo-Flo?

Yes, I am new to this. And a little nervous and feeling over my head.

I have a few books but also want real person advice. Anyone who wants

to give me some, please do! Unless it is to go away ;-P
