  1. Vibhav,

We must have missed each other by just a few days. Take a look at my site. You got higher on the rock pile than I was able to. Nice composition not sure how anyone can give it just a 4? Someone gave me a 3. Did you use grad filter or bracket and HDR? Paul

  2. The trial and tribulation of an amateur photographer on a Canadian Rockies vacation

with my family. Thanks to photonet I asked a few questions before I left to improve

both my techniques and equipment. With family in tow I tried to get my photos done

early before breakfast (catch that 5:30 sunrise) and in late day (when I had just a

few minutes to do my thing). I used a tripod, remote and sometimes timer. I really

liked using the timer. Most photos were bracketed and merged in photomatix. I tried

using my grad filters but I got better results with bracketing do to the extreme

contrast I found in the field. I tried different apertures but seemed to get the best

results with f/22. I was hoping to use a full frame camera but that didn’t work out (

see a previous thread of mine) so I primarily used my 20D with a 10-22mm lens

with polarizer.I was a little frustrated with my new arca swiss monoball z-1. The flip

lock quick release plate seemed to loosen too often-the coged wheels just didn’t

keep the same tension. I was also frustrated when trying to take vertical shots and

just wished the vertical notch on the arca was a little longer. I had to move the tripod

legs when I just wanted to move the camera 5 degrees more but the notch wouldn’t

let me. Not all my foregrounds subjects were as sharp as I wanted but all in all for a

rank amateur with family in tow I think I did well

Don, very nice shot. I have to admit I am a sucker for grainy silhouette photos like this. It started for me with those photos of JFK/RFK in the White House. The expression from your model is wonderful and just complements the overall look. Kudos. Paul
  3. Milena. Nicely done. I have a suggestion try shooting from the same perspective but leave out the sky. I have tried this in the past and found it looks more dramatic. You do have to find a "full" tree.

  4. Hi Rick. Great detail.I don't know how you got it so sharp. I was in the church last year at this time and I tried to use a small tripod but they wouldn't let me set it up no matter how much I protested. I ended up using my 20D with a 50mm 1.4 lens and used wide open and high iso. I attached 1 of my photos and as you can tell fairly noisey. I love progued and just wished I had more time to explore.

OK it is not Provence but Sequim, Washington. I placed my tripod and got down low.

Sure would be nice to have lcd that would swing out instead of trying to use canon's

angle finder and bending down like a pretzel Also too much wind but it did smell nice
