I am curious to know how people feel about using the Epson 2200 to
make prints for portfolio. I want to show the prints to gallery
directors. Should I go to a professional printing service and use
photographic paper rather than use my Epson? Thanks.

Thanks for all your answers. The links provided are also very helpful.

Thanks everyone. This is helpful.
A separate but related question. If I were to reduce the image size, save it, and later on increase the size back to the original(for whatever reason), would the information in this final image be reduced compared to the original (first) image? There are fundamental things about digital imaging that I don't understand.

I'm using USM to sharpen my images before printing. I set the amount
at 250% and the threshold at 2. For one of my images, I raised the
radius to 2.3 and noticed that at a 50% view the image appears
properly sharp. But when I decrease the view to 25% or less, it looks
like I've sharpened it too much. I want to print the image (captured
at 6.3 mp res) up to full frame on 16x20 paper. What do you think? Is
it too much? Thanks.

"Set the size so that one dimension corresponds to the exact size on the print, and let the other one be smaller than the nominal size."
I did this and then used the move tool to move it onto a 16X20 canvas. What is the tool for centering the image on the canvas?

Hi. I want use mpix.com to print photos on 16X20 paper. However, their
printers will only print to the aspect ratio of their standard print
sizes. I don't want to crop my images. I want to print the whole
frame. So I will have to use Photoshop CS to place my images on a
canvas size of 16X20. The problem is that my images are bigger than
that. How can I make the images fit this canvas size so that I DON'T
THROW AWAY any information that would be important to getting the best
print quality? Thanks everyone.

Thanks everyone. Beau, I think I will go with mpix.com.

Scott,
Thanks for the very useful and thorough suggestions. It's a big help!

Does anybody have experience with Lambda printers. I called a local
shop to ask about printing professional level photos for an exhibit.
They told me that this is what they use for printing digital files
(tiff from a 10D). It's supposedly cutting edge and that's why they
charge what they charge: $60 for 16X20 color prints on archival
paper. Thanks.

Thanks, everyone. I appreciate your insights.
I have some questions for Scott.
1) Would E-surface metallic be preferable to regular
E-surface?
2) What are the "conservative papers"? All that I know
is that I would want acid free, rag paper.
3)I will likely go for 16x20 as you suggested. What do
you mean by "full frame"?
4)How would you mat and frame the image? I am leaning
toward 1 layer of mat cut to 1/2 inch away from the
image. Do you think a 1 size up frame would be too
small? Also, what dimension ratio for the frame would work well for
a 35mm image? A square or something that is of the same ratio to the 35mm format?
Many thanks. I especially appreciate that you
responded directly to the way my forum question was
phrased. I needed a solid answer.

Actually, it's one image chosen for the silent auction, but I will have about 5 to 7 photographs exhibited as well. So it will be multiple prints. All color and captured and store in the same manner as the above. I COULD REALLY USE SOME SOUND ADVICE. I don't want to mess this up. Thanks.

Hi, Bruce. I know this may sound ridiculous, I don't know the options of print types. Ugggghhhh...(scratching my head)...I want to know what are the attractive options for printing color street photography images captured on Canon 10D at the highest resolution in RAW format, converted to TIFF files and edited in PS CS. My monitor is color managed. Does that help? The print size will could be around 16X20 to 20X24. Thanks. :)

Hi, Greg. Thank you. Probably in the range of 16X20 to 20X24. I am boycotting Adorama.
Leroy, where is MPIX? I need the photos like REAL soon. Thank you.

Hello everyone. Could someone recommend an appropriate or ideal paper
type (including surface type) to use for color prints. One of my
photographs was just chosen for a silent auction at a gallery. I've
only been photographing for a year and half and this is the FIRST TIME
I've gotten to this stage of the game. Please don't hesitate to
volunteer a detailed answer; I can use every bit of information. Thanks.

Hello, everyone. Could someone recommend a good quality professional
printer in NYC that won't charge me a kidney or liver. One with a
fairly quick turnover would be fantastic. I need to make prints from
my digital files for an upcoming exhibit. (It's my first one, and I
hardly know an iota about the process. LOL...) Thank you all so much.

I want to put borders around some images to be loaded onto a website.
How can I do this wiht PS CS? Thanks everyone.

Thank you, everyone, for your helpful responses!! I'll check out the link, Kevin. The favorable input regarding the WL set gives me more confidence in it. Jeff, I'm glad you brought up the short flash duration of the WL.

Could someone point out the pros cons of monolights vs lights with
power supply? Also, I want to buy a strobe set to do some dance
photography and some portrait work. What do think would be a good
lighting set (in terms of power, ease of use, portability, etc.) to
get for these purposes? After reading some of the thread, I'm leaning
toward White Lightning because it's seems cheap and pretty good.
Thanks everyone.

Excuse me. What I mean is should I set my image file to 300ppi or some other value?
-
Hi, everyone. I want to give a framed print to a friend for the
holiday. I am setting the image resolution at 300dpi to print from my
2200. Is this the right value? Anyone out there tonight? Thank you.

I want to convert some digital files to slides. Has anyone ever used
slides.com or iprintfromhome.com? Could you tell me what kind of
experience you had with it? Thanks.

Hi. Could someone recommend a place in Manhattan that converts digital
files to slides for under $10 per slide? Preferably, a direct source
as oppose to a middle man lab that drops it off for somebody else to
do. Secondly, at what resolution should I convert the image to before
sending it out for the job? I tried 300 dpi, but that gives me an
enormous file size. Should I reduce the image size to reduce the size
of the file? If so, what are the optimal settings (for image size,
resolution, etc.)? Thank you.

Hi. Could someone recommend a place in Manhattan that converts digital
files to slides for under $10 per slide? Open on Sunday? Thank you.

Could someone recommend a good way (book, website, etc.) to learn how
to put together a strong portfolio to show to a gallery director and
personages like such? My works most easily fall into the categories of
street and documentary photography. Thank you.

Could someone explain how to create the effect of multiple exposures
by laying multiple images on top of each other in Photoshop? Thanks.
