  6. When you go to Stockholm, you really should spend some time at the Vasa museum. There is a fabulous full-sized ship, which sank in 1628 and has been fully restored. Outside were other, more modern, vessels - when I went, I went down into an engine room, with no-one else on board to bother me. If the weather is good, it is a very walk-friendly city, with plenty to see. Enjoy!
  7. Just on the off chance, I’m posting this here... I have an elderly Scan Elite II which I bought new and which has always been well treated. It has had significant, but not excessive, use. Nowadays, I use it with VueScan under Windows 10. For a while now, it has been very hard to start up. At first I thought it was the power supply, so I replaced it, but it has made no difference. When switched on, it just sits there. The green light is either off or blinking and closer inspection shows that the internal illumination is on. However, it just sits there. Repeated turning on and off will eventually lead to it initialising properly and I can then use it normally (although it seems to be getting even noisier than originally). Turn it off or disconnect the data cable and you’ve had it. ‘Repeated’, in this context, can be a few dozen to over a hundred times. Giving it “breaks” sometimes - but not always - works. It’s probably a hardware issue, since the device isn’t “seen” by the computer until fully initialised. I use it under FireWire, but the problem is the same with USB 2.0 as well. Any observations/suggestions, other than seeking out a replacement (not trivial!)? Many thanks. Peter
  8. Rex I expect that you are aware that the D1X is not, itself, a full-frame camera. (That started - I think - with the D3). So you'll get a rather different perspective when putting your lenses on a full-frame body! For what it's worth, I bought a D700 back in 2010 and am still very happily using it, but you might prefer a higher resolution sensor, in which case the D750 may be something to consider, if your budget can stretch to it. Both are available used and the D750 is available new, here in the UK (on Amazon), for about £1300. Bear in mind that a high resolution sensor will ruthlessly "show up" the optical limitations of some of those old lenses - the D700 is much more forgiving that way. Peter

  11. These are a couple of weeks old - I've been "out of the game" with a nasty shoulder problem for over a year now. Following surgery I'm almost fully healed, so I've finally been able to pick up my trusty D700 and go walkabout. Treated myself to a 24-120 f4 VRII to celebrate! PS Have the upload rules changed? The guidance still says maximum file sizes of 300kB; the upload button is claim ing 1GB. Mine are all downsized to 300kB at present...
