Undoubtedly, although I've just sold mine. At my age, VR matters more, so I've switched to the 24-120 f4. Since I am almost exclusively digital, the geometric distortion is effectively irrelevant and I love the micro-contrast. Miss the 'macro' feature on the old 28-105, though. Alas, I can't throw any additional suggestions into the ring, since the OP doesn't like either lens!
