While I almost always want the ability to set every control on my
SLR, sometimes I like the freedom of loading my Epic with 400 speed
film and shooting away. Does anyone else choose a P&S over their much
more versatile SLR system to just let go and have fun? Sure, I miss
having different perspectives--but I never (well almost nrver) miss a
shot. Please chime in.

Hello All,
I sent a check to Photo.net shortly after registering (late June). I
still don't see a patron status symbol. Did I send the check to the
wrong place? Does it typically take a month or more to process snail
mail requests? What should I do next? I'm excited about becoming a
patron and having the elevated capabilities.
Thanks for your help,
Rick

I have the APO version as well. It is not bad for the money. Hood is included in the price.

Use a 50mm and 3200 speed film. You should be able to handhold wide open. What focal lengths were you planning on using?

I want to use an as-15 with a sync cord attached to a Sunpak 383 with
umbrella for off-camera portrait work. The instructions with the
adapter recommend Nikon speedlights only. While I understand that
this is an effort by Nikon to use their products, I want to make sure
there isn't a good reason why I shouldn't use the aftermarket
speedlight. Will I fry my N-80?
Thanks,
Rick

F75 Vs F80
in Nikon
My vote is for the F80 and the 50, or the 28-105 if you must have a zoom. While the images from the 28-80 are not bad, the build quality and feel of the lens are not so great. My 50/1.4 was practically married to my N80 for quite some time.
Just point and shoot--ah the freedom

Thang: Thanks for helping to justify my P&S impulses.
David: You make a good point. I certainly am restricted by the autofocus, autoexposure, 35mm/2.8, particulars of the camera. I don't get the same shots I do with my N-80 and variety of primes and zooms. That may be the biggest reason of all for me--create magic within the parameters of such a simple, limiting tool.
