    The last couple versions of the Leica Summicron are also excellent choices. <br>

    From what I've seen of the Hexanon 50/2, that too is an amazing lens.<br>

    Years ago, I had a CV Nokton 50/1.5 and didn't like it wide open.  That is purely a personal choice.  I really like the old Leica 50 'lux.<br>

  2. Ray, I've been using the 18/4 and the 28/2.8 on the M8, and I really like the results with both. The 28/2.8 is easy to hand-code and use with the UV/IR filter. The 18/4 is a bit trickier, as mine still has the original 50/75 flange on it. I coded it as a WATE and have to push the frame selector to the 28/90 position to get the camera to read it as either a 16, 18 or 21. I haven't taken the time to master how to set it as an 18 only using this method, as the majority of shots i took with it were atop a volcano in the Philippines. As a result, my shots are identified randomly as being shot with each of the three focal lengths. Zeiss glass works very well on the M8. If I didn't have the 18 and the Leica 24, I might go back to a 21, but right now I'm happy with those two.
  3. I have both--actually three: the ASPH, latest pre-ASPH and ver. 2. They all have different looks and signatures. You ARE lucky to have both, and if the differences do not matter to you then sell the ASPH, as it will bring you the most cash. Are you shooting film or digital M8? I prefer the ASPH on the M8 and the pre-ASPHs on film. I would only have had the ver. 2 for my M2 and M3, but the BP last pre-ASPH for my coming MP was so pretty that I couldn't resist selling other lenses to get it... I used to own a silver one with an M7, and I missed that lens a lot. All of the 50 'luxes are great portrait lenses. The ASPH is razor sharp, so it gives you reality in the face, whereas the others give you plenty-sharp but softer and smoother background images. You really have to try them a lot to find out which one is best for what you want in your images.
  4. Ray, the 28 Elmarit ASPH is also a plus for its tiny size--similar to the 35 'cron v. 4. If you're looking for a graph to buy a lens, I can't help you. But this little lens takes great photographs, and I know that you are good enough to get a lot out of it.
  5. Ray, the 28 Elmarit ASPH is a fantastic lens. I have never heard of the problem you mention. All of the current owners should have passport warranties on them as well. I highly recommend it for sharpness and color rendition--especially on the M8. I like it above the Zeiss ZM 28/2.8 and the CV 28/2. I haven't used it on a Leica M film camera yet, although I surely will. It is the keeper of the three 28 M-mount lenses i own.
