Thanks Dan,
But I was personally thinking that there was too much ground out front and not enough sky above. Not happy with my composition really.
Neither Adam.
If anything it's companies like Google. Although I'm sure Walmart cashes in big time I don't see any relation to Pepsi. There are tons of other people and corporations making money by setting up travel plans to BRC now and setting up multi million dollar camps with domes that they charge exorbitant camp fees to join and basically turning it into little more than an LA club like environment at night.
I don't go for those things though. I go for the art and the people and the dust. I actually met someone that works for photo.net there this year as well. She said that Philip Greenspun was a nice guy to work for, if not a little esoteric.

Can I just say that Mr. Pereira should have put his name on this when he posted it all those years ago. It has to be one of the most ripped off images on the Internet. There are hundreds of instances of it being used on Myspace for an icon photo and on other networking sites, usually with some silly reference to Star Wars and no mention of who actually took it.
Anyway, cheers to Carlos Pereira. Great shot.

Her expression is what truly makes this image.

Clean your sensor. I mean really now.

Interesting observation Kim. But if I tipped it to where it was level the guy would be leaning way sideways!
The ground was entirely level.

Great exposure.

Thank all of you for the comments.
Thomas, I wouldn't want to remove those elements from this image because that is the way it really was there at that given moment.
That is not to say you are not correct in your observation.
It is truly surreal being out there at 5 o'clock in the morning with what has to be the highest concentration of creative, unique, people in the world at that given moment, all of them waiting for the sun to rise. And once it does they all do something, whatever it is they feel like, to welcome it, and then go back to whatever it is they were doing, or planning to do.
I went out to the sunrise four days, and each time I walked away with a sense of awe.
The colors represented above convey that feeling much more effectively than any words I can come up with here.

From Burning
Man this year. Taken moments after sunrise. And yes, it was
manipulated some. -

First of all, thanks to all of you for taking the time to comment. Salvatore that is exactly what I was thinking. That triangle kind of bugs me as well, but I do like the lines that filter over it and it is much more noticeable in a larger image.
Jonathan, that was the best compliment of all! I really didn't care about any dune shots after I got this. Not like they would have been original.
Knicki, the bull was up in the pen, and we all know what he was doing. And you didn't know this was a self portrait? Haha.
And thank you Elle.

Would it be better cropped 5:4 as opposed to full framed?
Anyway, I was trying to shoot the dunes and everywhere I looked there are footprints and so I kept walking. After going about a mile I came over the top of this dune and there are several photogs jockeying for position just before sunset. So I said... on second thought I better not say that here.
I shot this guy from about 200 yards @ 350mm, then I turned around and left. -
You have to love the name on that boat...
Chocolate Chip.
Personally, I think it is nice and moody. Those willows add a nice texture.

The only thing I find bothersome is that this image appears slightly distorted, not that that matters. It's still a great shot.

Great shot... Is Silver Addictive the name of the band?

I actually think it is pretty cool, and it fits in with the other shots I have seen you post lately. The sign being off-kilter gives it a special little strangeness. What's not to like?

I like the crop as is. Title notwithstanding, the subject is still the Mantis and I like having a little space for emphasis. Nice shot Carl.

I agree with Ken. It's interesting that everything is muted, almost drab, and then this reflection is so bright. Provocative.

I think lots of places call their lottery games 6/49. There are 49 numbers of which the player picks 6 numbers. It was actually even the California name for their lottery originally, since changed.
Besides that I think it is a humorous photograph. But the shadow of the lamp is a little too prominent in my opinion.
And the post image processing makes the room, which I suspect is supposed to appear squalid, look a little too pretty, or at the least ideal.
