    Selfjord Turquoise

Fredvang, Lofoten, NorwayA gorgeous turquoise lagoon backed by snow clad mountains is pretty much my idea of photographic nirvana but give me a chance to exploit a bit of moodiness and I will jump at the opportunity. This was taken about two minutes before being lashed by gravel sized chips of ice in a hail storm of epic proportions and that darkening of the sky is chiefly responsible for the luminosity of that turquoise glowing water.

    Kissed By A Rose

Rannoch Moor, Glencoe, ScotlandA favourite spot of mine and probably one of the first I aim for given limited time. The pink and rosy light of Earths Shadow setting at sunrise over the distant Blackmount is surely the most beguiling of views across the massive expanse of Rannoch moor and Loch N'Achlaise. On this particular morning it was windless and my exhaled breath curled away like smoke but of course there were no reflections for the temperature was substantially below minus ten Celcius.Pentax 67 II ,55-100 zoom,Fujichrome Velvia0.45ND grad, f/22 at 4 seconds.

    Pink Mellon

Mellon Udrigle, Laide, Scotland.A perfect late winter morning a few minutes after sunrise at my favourite Scottish beach Mellon Udrigle. I never tire of this place and inspiration just washes over me like the soft pink light of this beautiful new day. I arrived very early and scouted a perfect textured but otherwise unblemished section of beach and divided the scene as precisely as I could into three equal areas of earth, sea and sky, only the mountain range behind softly alters the geometry of balance.Pentax 67II, 55-100 zoom, 0.45ND hard edged grad, f/22 at 2 seconds. Velvia.
  4. Cove Bay, Hopeman, Moray, Scotland. A low sun shines long and golden as it passes below a cloud bank on an evening trip to Cove Bay. It is a magical experience watching this coastal alchemy where base rock is turned into golden nuggets. Pentax 67 II ,45mm lens,Fujichrome Velvia Polariser half turned to prevent block up of shadows, F22 at 1/2 sec. NEW!! Photographic Holidays at TRANSIENT LIGHT.

    Mountain Mirror

I don't usually take pano pictures as I tend to see images that work front to back rather than left to right. However there are always exceptions and this one is surely one of them. A little bit of depth comes about from the presence of a sunlit partially submerged tree. I think it is a welcome addition, rather than a distraction, but I would be very pleased to hear your views. The mountains are part of the Inverpolly Reserve in Scotland and they are mirrored in pristine crystal clear morning light at Loch Drumrunie. Central portion of Pentax 67II, 55-100 zoom, polariser, 0.45ND grad, F16 at 1/4 sec on Velvia. Please take a look at the other images in this series. Transient Light and Timecatcher.

    Sandstone Feet

A big hairy sandstone foot sinks into the sand at Cumminston in Moray, Scotland. The tidal action causing irritating pebbles to seek out the nooks and crannies between its toes. The colour is not exaggerated / enhanced in photoshop, it truly is this colour, (velvia colour), the toes being warmed by a setting sun. Pentax 67II, 55-100 zoom, polariser, F16 at 1/4 sec, Velvia. Please take a look at some new images recently uploaded to Transient Light and Timecatcher.

    Stalker and eratic

Castle Stalker again on the same picture postcard day. A lot of people have said they would prefer to see less of the sky and more of the foreground so I have included this portrait version which i am also very pleased with. The intense colours are courtesy of Velvia and a polariser not photoshop manipulation. Interested to know which you prefer and why. Pentax 67 II, 55-100 zoom, polariser, 0.45ND grad to horizon. F22 at 1/2 sec. on Velvia. Please feel free to visit my website for some other recent uploads, Transient light, There are some superb new shots at Timecatcher too.
