Pink Mellon

ian cameron

Mellon Udrigle, Laide, Scotland.A perfect late winter morning a few minutes after sunrise at my favourite Scottish beach Mellon Udrigle. I never tire of this place and inspiration just washes over me like the soft pink light of this beautiful new day. I arrived very early and scouted a perfect textured but otherwise unblemished section of beach and divided the scene as precisely as I could into three equal areas of earth, sea and sky, only the mountain range behind softly alters the geometry of balance.Pentax 67II, 55-100 zoom, 0.45ND hard edged grad, f/22 at 2 seconds. Velvia.

Very nice Ian! Good soft pastels and wonderful texture and detail in the foreground. Along with that is the added interest of the snowy distant mountains. What I especially like is how this is layered in thirds which adheres to the old guideline and exemplifies it's importance (although we all know it is just a guideline, not a requirement). Exposure, I think, is minimally top heavy and doesn't jive with the brighter foreground. Purely a creative choice though. As usual, outstanding work from you Ian!
