I like the way he pops out of the background. Anybody know what he

Just having a bit of fun. I know what I see when I look at this.

What do you see?

This spider hung posed over our driveway for quite some time until a

big wind came. There are trees that overhang the driveway so there

was no shot of a clear sky behind her, and lighting was iffy. I

liked the picture of the spider, but does the background distract

too much?

I like the underexposure for this picture. You got some really rich colors from it (surely the Velvia helped there). Nicely composed, too.

This was originally horizontal, but I think I like it better

vertically. Any thoughts? I appreciate any comments.

My goodness, this looks like it took a lot of work to accomplish! You will probably get hit in the ratings because this looks more like an illustration than a camera shot. Some pnetters just plain don't like photoshop. I think this is absolutely gorgeous and typifies the mystical, magical world of children.

This is the look that Ryan gets every time his mother says anything

to him! It is SO much him that I get a little giggle every time I

see it. I realize that if you don't know him, this probably doesn't

translate in the same way. Does his expression detract from the

picture?

Thanks, Kim. I don't generally do photos of people, but I can't resist the grandchildren. Getting them to stop long enough for a picture is a challenge, but this one is a ham for the camera! She is in Texas now, in the foster care system, but we are trying to get her and her sister back here to live with us. It has been too long...

This photo was taken early in my photoshop learning curve. I didn't know anything about changing colors then, so what you see here is what you get. I never realized how complementary those colors were.

The NEF file straight out of the camera was really red, although the

flower was more pink than red. I had to fiddle quite a bit in

Photoshop to get this color.

This is beautifully done. The two pictures (each a beauty in itself) are perfectly melded.

 

But I prefer the gravel for the concept you are trying to present. To me, the gravel is a man-made item and thus, is more apt to be the medium in which an animal is disposed.

 

This makes me think more of the recyclability of life. Once we die and decompose, those bits of us that are left, our essence, is used in the formation of new life. Thus, a cat may become a tree and we never leave this earth completely; we are just recycled.

 

Anyway, I love your digital alterations. They are beautifully crafted and thought provoking.

When I first saw the thumbnail of this picture, I thought it was a cute little kitty peering through a frosted window. Then I clicked on the thumbnail, and as soon as I saw the picture felt an overwhelming sadness. I knew exactly what you were going after here without reading your message. I've adopted four animals, and all of them were strays. Our newest family member has all kinds of health problems, but he has been a joy to us. We live in the country, so we get a lot of drop offs here.

 

If I ever get to Texas, I would love to get some photoshop lessons from you! But I should probably start with some camera lessons.

If we assume the top hand is Jesus (or whomever your god is) and the lower hands are people who have sinned, the sins of the people have caused the blood, yet the top hand still reaches out to help them...To me, my version still implies hope and help, rather than dark and evil."

 

The problem I have in seeing this with your vision is that the entire canvas is awash in red. Thus, the sins of the people have stained not just the world, but even the hand of a god, with blood.

 

This is what I see. Red is the color of blood, yes, but it is also used to depict passion. Too much passion can lead to fanaticism. Fanaticism can lead to bloodshed. Human history is replete with examples of fanaticism run amok.

 

If you see the upper hand as the hand of religion, rather than that of a god, it makes sense that the entire canvas is red. All parties are guilty. The only bit of hope that I see in this picture is in the form of a warning, which if followed, allows for hope - Be very careful in becoming so involved in the proliferance of your religion that you forget its peaceful precepts.

 

This is very beautifully done. The detail on the fading flower is tack sharp and the background is very nicely muted and obscure.

If I remember correctly I played a bit with white in selective colors, a little bit with shadows and highlights, and finished with match color. I had been playing around with other pictures, too, so I might not have this exactly right. I'm glad I didn't offend.

Forgive me if it's not the case, but it appears that you have selected the flowers in photoshop and darkened the background. When viewed in the larger size, the selection around the leaves and stems seems a bit rough and the flowers themselves have a bit of a glowing aura. The picture of the flowers is gorgeous and I would love to see the untouched-up version.

I'm not going to swear to it, but I think this is a gladiola.

Like Stephen, I don't see a lot of interest in the difference of textures, but in the rose and the angle at which it is shot. This is very nice, but it seems to me that some detail is lost in the flower. Could just be my monitor.

I think your rendition of this scene is more effective than a straight photograph would be.

From the thumbnail viewpoint, this web looked like it was hung on the clothes line to dry, with the barbs on the wire as clothes pins. Very nice idea, though I would have preferred a tighter crop.

I'm trying to learn to use the Nikkor 70-300mm lens. I had to use

the on-camera flash. Available light is never quite enough as this

spider as she hangs from the trees over our driveway, which is long

and curving.

When I saw the thumbnail, I saw a shrimp plant. After clicking on the thumbnail, I saw a mean looking totem disguised as a shrimp plant! Really nice.

A great looking portrait with wonderful skin tones. One minor little quibble - her fingers are cut off at the bottom.
