I have two F1's, (first versions), two FTbn's, a T90 and a T70. The FTb's will outlast them all, IMHO. The T90 and T70 have some minor quirks and won't operate in the cold. The F1's shutters hang at slow speeds at times. The FTb's keep on "ticking" with no CLA's planned.
Does anyone own any old solid state devices that still work? My son talked me out of my PAS 3 Dynakit preamp (all tubes) to use with his Manley "Stingray" amp ( all tubes).
He is looking longingly at my old Canons. Regards.

Cesar, I have an old beater F1 which has a similar problem. The mechanical coupling from the aperture needle in the meter window to the lens aperture arm is probably not following (spring repair?). I'm told it is a simple fix during a CLA. Who knows. Good luck. Regards.

Hi Stephen, let us all know. Any tip is appreciated that will add to my GT's longevity. Regards.

I agree with Alan, the stuff is "hot" and I don't mean radioactive. There are a bunch of "slow" northern european gene pools in the Mpls/StPaul area but they ain't that stupid. Regards.

My Ebabe transactions now are limited to what I can afford to lose, based on a recent experience. PayPaw is a joke. The business plan for the scammers (Ebabe, Paypaw and Power Sellers) is maximum profit with no regard for the Buyer. You might be surprised if you knew the origin of many items for sale (stolen??).
Don't be afraid to give negative feedback, Sellers hate it and will sometimes "deal" to have you remove it. Don't, let them eat their words and warn others of the Sellers who are "Crooked". Oh well, live and learn. Regards.

I think the newest Kodak Gold 200 is very nice.

My other color films are Kodak Max 800 and Kodachrome. I'm happy.

Great pix Brian. I have a Zorki 4 and a newer J8. An outstanding lens, IMHO. Never tried B&W, happy with the color options, especially Kodachrome.
This pix has some sunlight which the J8 "tames" pretty well. Oleg worked on my Z4 and it operates "smoothly". I'd like to try a Leica someday for a comparison. Regards.

I hope Gregerson recovers something from Vilana. Likely not. I'll bet Vilana is "merrily on his way" somewhere. Too bad. Gregerson may need an enforcer with a big "stick". Regards.

Very nice pix. Put it in the Nude Category. Regards.

Where'a Goldie Hahn? Regards.

VERY nice.

David, I'm sure, based on your pix, you've used some other camera systems, how does the old Canon 50/1.4 compare? I have two other lens favorites, which are reasonably available, 200/4 and 100/2.8, all BL.
John, once in awhile, I used to work around the SF area in that time frame. To bad those guys an gals didn't 'fade away' someplace. I wonder what they are doing now? Probably dot.com execs. Chuckle.

John, mid 70's on the left coast, SF. Back then it took awhile for this crazy stuff to go cross country. Regards.

Hi David, my old breechlock 50/1.4 wide open seems contrasty enough, even with some sun in its eyes. I used Kodachrome 200 for this pix, what did you use? As Mark noted, individual computer monitors will show dramatic differences in contrast. Double points if you can guess the location and era of the pix. Regards.

I'm happy with my Fuji Z1, very small form factor, newer ones should be better. Tape over the LCD works at night, after you learn how to point it based on some practice. There are other ways to mask/reduce the LCD brightness.
What digital will match the "35mm Summicron ASPH"? Maybe a new Pentax and a "pancake" lens? Close but no cigar. Regards.
-
Hi Michael, as you can tell, your admiration for Epson flatbeds is heresy to the film scanner crowd. My much maligned 4870 is ok for most 35mm stuff, like who would enlarge 35mm much over 8x10? GRIN. I think it does ok with MF too. Here is an RB67 pix.

........ and a small cut.

I love my cheap old Epson 4870!!
Regards.

I hope K can rekindle many more "flings" and keep you happy for alot longer, like it has for countless others. As you know, "Kodachrome Rules" over all the other wannabee slide films. IMHO of course. GRIN. ...... and it lasts longer for sure.
Sometimes an old K slide (mid 70's)can lend some authenticity to outlandish statements. Looks better projected. SMILE.

Let's see some K pix. Regards.

Not as long as I keep track of where "Minnie" is in the truck. GRIN. Minox's 35mm cameras will join the ranks of other great cameras no longer manufactured. Regards.

K, thanks for the link. Other similar links indicate the positive characteristics of the original 625 battery are still unmet by the substitutes. Reducing the voltage of a substitute silver batttery with a semiconductor works well according to CRIS. It remains to be seen if the voltage reduction scheme is constant over a wide temperature range (-20 F to 110 F). I'm still looking for old 625's that might still have some life. Interestingly, Sony has a newer process 625 which includes mercury, not as much though. CHUCKLE. Regards.

Only my new Kodachromes now or sometimes when the kids want to see some old ones. Stunning unmatched viewing system compared to digital systems. GRIN. The new LCD's are pretty good though. Regards.

I admit I had to "air out" one of the Iskra cases, must have belonged to a heavy smoker. After that it cleaned up nicely. The intent of this post was to confirm what I've experienced. I haven't learned though, just bought a nice looking F1-n case. DUMB. Regards.

I have several older (pre 1970) leather camera cases for an Argus C3, three
Iskras, Yashica GT and a Zorki 4 which are in surprisingly good shape.
I have five 1970's and newer Canon cameras that have disintegrated cases. They
really just fall apart. I seldom see a newer Canon camera with a case.
What happened to Canon (and other mfg) camera cases after the early 70s? Did
the Canon rangefinder cameras have decent cases? Regards.

The original F1, as described and spec'd by Canon in their literature, was designed to operate well below zero degrees F (-20F). T90 and T70 LCD screens aren't too bright at those temps nor are film advance motors very reliable or "perky".
Hi Mark, more off topic and partly subjective, every piece of Sony equipment (amplifiers, tuners, tape decks etc), except my Super Beta tape, has failed and the repair costs exceeded the replacement value. I have good luck with tube equipment. The PAS-3 for example, was born in 1965 and the first tube was replaced last year. The PAS-3 was cheaper to buy and cost less to maintain, like the mechanical Canons. ........ and, I think the PAS-3 sounded better than my new Yamaha, and for sure my Fisher tube tuner is more sensitive than the Yamaha. .....but, the dial cord in the Fisher broke. I need to get some old fishing line for the repair, Stren nylon is not the answer. ... no more rambling... have a good day. Regards.
