  1. The original F1, as described and spec'd by Canon in their literature, was designed to operate well below zero degrees F (-20F). T90 and T70 LCD screens aren't too bright at those temps nor are film advance motors very reliable or "perky".

Hi Mark, more off topic and partly subjective, every piece of Sony equipment (amplifiers, tuners, tape decks etc), except my Super Beta tape, has failed and the repair costs exceeded the replacement value. I have good luck with tube equipment. The PAS-3 for example, was born in 1965 and the first tube was replaced last year. The PAS-3 was cheaper to buy and cost less to maintain, like the mechanical Canons. ........ and, I think the PAS-3 sounded better than my new Yamaha, and for sure my Fisher tube tuner is more sensitive than the Yamaha. .....but, the dial cord in the Fisher broke. I need to get some old fishing line for the repair, Stren nylon is not the answer. ... no more rambling... have a good day. Regards.

  2. I have two F1's, (first versions), two FTbn's, a T90 and a T70. The FTb's will outlast them all, IMHO. The T90 and T70 have some minor quirks and won't operate in the cold. The F1's shutters hang at slow speeds at times. The FTb's keep on "ticking" with no CLA's planned.

Does anyone own any old solid state devices that still work? My son talked me out of my PAS 3 Dynakit preamp (all tubes) to use with his Manley "Stingray" amp ( all tubes).

He is looking longingly at my old Canons. Regards.

  3. Cesar, I have an old beater F1 which has a similar problem. The mechanical coupling from the aperture needle in the meter window to the lens aperture arm is probably not following (spring repair?). I'm told it is a simple fix during a CLA. Who knows. Good luck. Regards.
  4. My Ebabe transactions now are limited to what I can afford to lose, based on a recent experience. PayPaw is a joke. The business plan for the scammers (Ebabe, Paypaw and Power Sellers) is maximum profit with no regard for the Buyer. You might be surprised if you knew the origin of many items for sale (stolen??).

Don't be afraid to give negative feedback, Sellers hate it and will sometimes "deal" to have you remove it. Don't, let them eat their words and warn others of the Sellers who are "Crooked". Oh well, live and learn. Regards.

  5. David, I'm sure, based on your pix, you've used some other camera systems, how does the old Canon 50/1.4 compare? I have two other lens favorites, which are reasonably available, 200/4 and 100/2.8, all BL.

John, once in awhile, I used to work around the SF area in that time frame. To bad those guys an gals didn't 'fade away' someplace. I wonder what they are doing now? Probably dot.com execs. Chuckle.

  6. I'm happy with my Fuji Z1, very small form factor, newer ones should be better. Tape over the LCD works at night, after you learn how to point it based on some practice. There are other ways to mask/reduce the LCD brightness.

What digital will match the "35mm Summicron ASPH"? Maybe a new Pentax and a "pancake" lens? Close but no cigar. Regards.

  7. Hi Michael, as you can tell, your admiration for Epson flatbeds is heresy to the film scanner crowd. My much maligned 4870 is ok for most 35mm stuff, like who would enlarge 35mm much over 8x10? GRIN. I think it does ok with MF too. Here is an RB67 pix.

    ........ and a small cut.

I love my cheap old Epson 4870!!

    Regards.

  8. I hope K can rekindle many more "flings" and keep you happy for alot longer, like it has for countless others. As you know, "Kodachrome Rules" over all the other wannabee slide films. IMHO of course. GRIN. ...... and it lasts longer for sure.

Sometimes an old K slide (mid 70's)can lend some authenticity to outlandish statements. Looks better projected. SMILE.

Let's see some K pix. Regards.

  9. K, thanks for the link. Other similar links indicate the positive characteristics of the original 625 battery are still unmet by the substitutes. Reducing the voltage of a substitute silver batttery with a semiconductor works well according to CRIS. It remains to be seen if the voltage reduction scheme is constant over a wide temperature range (-20 F to 110 F). I'm still looking for old 625's that might still have some life. Interestingly, Sony has a newer process 625 which includes mercury, not as much though. CHUCKLE. Regards.
  10. I have several older (pre 1970) leather camera cases for an Argus C3, three

Iskras, Yashica GT and a Zorki 4 which are in surprisingly good shape.

I have five 1970's and newer Canon cameras that have disintegrated cases. They

really just fall apart. I seldom see a newer Canon camera with a case.

What happened to Canon (and other mfg) camera cases after the early 70s? Did

the Canon rangefinder cameras have decent cases? Regards.
