  1. Hi,

I have had a search and can't really find anything on this. Before I was

browsing around Flickr looking at the old Leica III which I'm considering

buying. One guy was using an old canon lens on his Leica III from the 30's.

    The results were fantastic.

Considering Nikon is my main chosen brand I shoot with. Does anybody know if

you can put manual Nikkor lenses on an old Leica Rangefinder III.

    An adapter?

    Thanks.

  3. I have both Zeiss. For street photography, like said on another thread I would really want auto-focus. I have never used the Nikon versions, but I have a 28mm E lens manual. I would say they are about the same on ease of focus..maybe the Nikon I have it just a bit easier. But I tend to use my Zeiss for mainly static subject matter..so I can spend time getting the focus e.t.c. correct.

At the end of the day..it's the quality of image that comes from the Zeiss, I personally find so pleasing. They are not cheap..but you pay for quality and they are quality in my book. I would not say they are hyped.

I did in fact spend alot of time comparing images from the Nikon lens you mentioned and both were very close..if not the same as in sharpness. What I found with the Zeiss though was it was like comparing film to video. They have an image quality I just cannot find in either Nikon or Canon.

..it's hard trying to explain what I mean. I'm not up on all this technical jargon! But there is a very noticeable difference in my view.

  4. Yeah I've got the 35mm f2. Also the 50 F1.4 and the 25mm. I started with the 50mm because it was the cheapest and then got an addiction to the lens quality. Though I don't think I'll be buying anymore.
  5. The Zeiss 35mm F2 is an incredible lens. Though I very much think it depends on what kind of photography you use it for. Street photography I would want an auto-focus e.t.c.

For still life, I am convinced you cannot beat the Zeiss. The optics are second to none. The final image on your computer screen is so life like you feel like you can reach out and touch it. Nikon/Canon seem alot more flat if you know what I mean.

It's like film vs video. The Zeiss is like a classic film and the Nikon/Canon is like an Omo commercial (Soap powder).

There is also a kind of '3D' effect that can be had with Zeiss that I have never achived with any Nikon lens.

Though don't get me wrong. I love Nikon as well.

  6. I went through all this a while ago. The best site I found was the dpreview site and check what lenses were being used. Because you can download the full size JPG you can really compare things.

Which is better? How long is a piece of string. In the end I went with Nikon and I'm very happy with it. At the top end though Canon win the day in my view. Beginner and mid range....I don't think there is really much in it, if anything. One Canon looks better than Nikon and vice-versa.

  7. Hi,

I've been reading on here the past few days about primes being much better

sharpness e.t.c. to the equivalent on zooms like the 17-55mm 2.8

For a while now I have been studying other photographs on the net of the 50mm

1.8. and I cannot see the difference!

In fact from what I cam make out at a certain distance..say photographing

    architecture the 17-55mm excels.

Does anybody know of any tests that have been done on the net comparing the

    50mm 1.8. to the 17-55mm?

  8. I was after buying a camera about a year ago. As you can guess I did alot of research on the Internet. In the end the D80 won. I guess it was the 10 MP that did for me and as far as I know is the same image quality you would get on a D200 sensor. Apart from on a D200 you have more taking options obviously. Though saying that I have very much upgraded my kit lens since then.

The best site I used for comparisons was the dpreview site. They have alot of full sized images to download.

  9. Hi, does anybody know if you can download a trial version of Camera Control Pro

    2?

You can download the first version from the Nikon website, but not the second.

I need the second more because I own a D80.

    Thanks.

  10. Hi,

Apart from having a kats-eye installed on my camera, has anybody got anymore

tips for crystal clear manual focusing on the D80?

At the moment I have to take a good few shots, which I don't mind but I would

    prefer not to.

I was wondering if there was such a thing as some kind of 'enlarger viewer' you

could some how put over the eye piece to have a larger clearer view of the

    image?

  11. Hi,

Is the sensor on the D200 alot better than the D80, so if I used the same lens

on both cameras the results on the D200 would be alot sharper e.t.c. because

the sensor is far superior and I guess collects more information, even though

it's the same MP size as the D80?

    Thanks.
